I find it to be no coincidence that Gordy grew a mustache AND came out with an air filter solution that works.

Best video from WCS in memory. And fantastic intro! My 500i has worn a Max Flow filter almost from day one. Just looking at it, I think the WCS is going to provide superior filtration with all that surface area of filter contacting the base and also with the tighter lock-up. Gordy always costing me money...

Used it this past week for the first time replacing a Max Flow. I also used both the Max Flow cover and the stock covers with no issues. There was not a single fine piece of material under the filter or near the intake. I would always find a few fines with the Max Flow. I followed Good Fellers technique of putting oil and foam in a zip lock bag and mashing it around. Worked great and thoroughly oiled the filter.

Installed mine last night, it has such tight tolerances, it took a hair dryer to warm it up a bit for a perfectly tight fit. I hadn’t thought about it being real cold and having any effect on installation. It appears that it will do the trick👍 Thanks WestCoast saw for what appears to be another great product 👍👏🇺🇸 Rick
@therealjohnsmith48115 күн бұрын
I have one as well and don’t understand what you mean by too tight. All I did was push a little on the cover and twist. Good snug fit. Not understanding the hair dryer requirement.
@Living-The-Dream5 күн бұрын
@ John, mine would not tighten down…..there was no tolerance. The cage was very stiff, which is a good thing I assume. After warming it up a bit, it was a little more flexible, allowing the cover to go on, though still very tight. My cover would not push down and allow for the 1/4 turn to tighten it.
@therealjohnsmith48115 күн бұрын
@ Interesting. Just thinking through the process (there very well could be nothing wrong and you are doing everything right and I am out in left field), I almost missed the removal of the stock spacer and paid close attention to how the new spacer installed. Not trying to imply you did anything incorrectly. Just curious, as winter sets in, if I may run into the same issue and need to steal my wife’s hair dryer. I would need to figure a “field solution as well. I really like mine so far. Not a single fine under the filter. Saws running great with it installed.
@Living-The-Dream5 күн бұрын
@ John, I thought I had installed it wrong, so before stating anything, I reread the instructions and watched Gordy’s install video twice, just to check. I removed the original soft bushing, doubled checked I had installed to new bushing flat side down towards the carb. Even took the filter back off, again squeezed out ALL excess oil and reinstalled the filter and cage again. I think I did everything properly🧐 The only other thought I had was the cold??? Only other thing I can think of is the cage is a hair too tall or my saw stem is too short, tolerances somewhere is not correct???? It still was very hard to turn that 1/4 turn, even after warming it up. I sent an e-mail to Gordy, just before using the hair dryer asking for someone’s assistance there. This was last night, so not expecting a response till Monday, sometime. Maybe my cover on the 500i is out of whack??? I hope you have no problems! After watching Gordy’s video today, at the end where he puts the filters on and easily tightens them down, there definitely is something out of norm with mine. I had to use the scrench to get my 1/4 turn and press down as firmly as I could on the cover. I don’t know……At a loss here. Maybe my cage or saw is the problem…..I think I’m going to order another for another saw and see what it does…….time will tell 👍
@therealjohnsmith48115 күн бұрын
@ Well, I will have a hair dryer on standby in case the cold gets me too. Sounds like the most reasonable thing that would affect the fit. Thanks for sharing the info! Happy Thanksgiving!

You do great work! I have a general question for you. I have a 500i (not ported) with all your great mods. That thing rips!! What do you use for hearing protection? Sharp is the only way to go if you're cutting or choping with a dull chain or axe. You're asking for trouble. it's not a matter of how it's a matter of when so always keep your chains sharp and axe sharp a clean cut is always better then a dull cut that is fact.
