The front clip is useful for water crossings or tethering in something like a kayak. You never want to use a top clip in water because it will force the dog's head under water. The bottom clip is also good for a rope assisted climb, again, pulling the dog up, not down. Having both top and bottom clips is a very good feature.

@@ForeverInFaith Well, the good thing is that there are many choices now. That is also the bad thing, right? It really depends on what activities your dog will need the vest for. Some are load bearing, some have extra protection in areas like the chest/abdomen, etc. Another option for some applications is a pack with an integrated vest. Many dogs love to have a job to do, so a pack might be a great choice. I do know that Ruffwear makes great stuff. I used to work with them doing product development, so I got to know the company very well. Great people and great products. That said, there are some pretty good options on Amazon, if cost is an issue. What type of dogs do you have, and what functions do you need in a vest? Maybe I'll have some ideas to look at?

Ruffwear is great, it's all I use for my ridgeback. Front Range is definitely my go-too harness for easy of use. I find it hard to imagine any dog could slip out of it once it has moulded to their body shape and been fitted correctly. By the way, there is a Ruffwear brush guard kit you can purchase for the webmaster that gives added chest protection from bushes etc plus padding for lifting.

Hi, thanks for the video! Is the webmaster harness also suited for hiking? I am looking for a new harness for summer when we will go to Austria for hiking. When on leash when hiking my border collie will be attached to me with a bungee leash to my waist, so he will be pulling a bit, but not as much as with canicross or stepjöring (when doing that he is very passionate and pulls hard, then we have non stop free motion harness). For hiking in the mountains I am looking for a harness with the option to pull him up, and toput the ‘cooler’ accessoire on his belly from ruffwear. So the webmaster sounds right, but my only concern is how well does it fit when pulling? (Since the buckle is not at the end of the harness. Or would you put the leash on the rope part at the end?). Thanks!

Yes, absolutely! My dogs almost always wear the web master when hiking! There actually is a loop at the back of the harness that you can attach a leash to if needed, it's just not a d ring.

I’m edging towards the flag line, do you think 3 straps will feel too much for a dog who has never worn a harness before? I think the extra padding underneath and the fact I won’t have to put it over her head would be better for her.

The flagline doesn't have extra padding. It has extra fabric for more support. If you want extra padding then the additional guard you can purchase for the Web Master would be a better option. Regardless of harness, I suggest a few training sessions to have your dog get well adjusted and comfortable with the harness.

@@EngagedK9 thank you for your comment and for clarifying. I don’t like the webmaster because of the buckle/adjustment thing on the underside, she usually just lies down (rather than running off) and as it’s her first experience of a harness her comfort is one of my primary concerns (as well as that she can’t escape from it obviously) I prefer the fabric underneath just because it looks more comfortable. Yes, I will be doing some sessions with her in the garden before going anywhere.

Hi, my boy is near the top end of the Flagline M size according to Ruffwear's website but I am not sure if the next size up will be able to be adjusted down to his size. Do you feel the sizing is spot on when comparing your boy's chest size to the Ruffwear's sizing guidelines?

I find it pretty true to size. Is your boy at the very end of the size or is there an inch spare?

@@EngagedK9 about 2 inches to spare. Irish Wolfhound cross so he's quite long as well

@@BreakTheSpell6 I would think that should be fine. The other thing to consider is the length you would get on the chest between the front legs to avoid rubbing at the armpits. If your measurement can fall within the larger size that might be my pick.

How much does loot weigh in this video? And what sizes would he usually take. He's about the size of my ACD/GSD. She seems to be good in the S webmaster, but some other roughwear items have less size options. I be shed be okay in some medium gear too.

He's about 40 lbs and wears a size small. In sweaters and jackets I have him in a medium because he has a longer body. However, his approach pack is also a small.
