Realy exceptional observation. How you know that was western and not eastern. I'm never sure here in my area where two species are overlaping. Whe I found them in Spain and Greece I had no dubt. But here in Istria at my home I'm never sure😅

Yes indeed, and what makes this even more interesting: there was a singing male Dark-eyed Junco just a few kilometres away a week before this one. About id: the calls of Eastern and Western are very different, this one was also recorded and analysed.
