Western Bowie After restoration video

Here is the Western bowie after restoring to a working knife.

We have a small Western that my dad restored. I should throw it up on here someday. lathed the pommel. I also got some old Western literature with factory pictures. Nostalgic company. You did good on that. Gave it a new life.

What a fantastic job you have made off this old timer,It has character and you cant buy that! I have a couple of tips for anyone trying this sort of project. To clean large rusty areas, Scrunch up a handful of cooking foil, (aluminium paper) run water over it (it won't hold much!) and rub on the rusted areas, I find it adds a patina to iron and steel. For pitting, If you get an ordinary pin and use the pointy end to scratch on the pitting it seems to treat it? Obviously, try these out on a test piece before. (Foil trick works great on rusty chrome!)

I'm about to do this on a Bowie knife my uncle made in his high school welding shop. We found it under his childhood house after it burnt down, he has since passed away back in 2004 so my mom gave it to me so I'm going to remove the rust and make like how you did in the video. Except it has a little more pitting.

I think it looks beautifully mean. Tons of character. I'd be proud to own it. That Bowie is a desirable year(s) '67-'68~. I'm for sure no expert though hahaha! I love this Bowie.

A great option for a pitted knife is to BLUE it! A black knife does not show dark pits

Nice job Bruce. I think even if all the pitting could have been removed it would not be a good option. In a way that would be erasing some of the history. I think you got the balance about right. Cheers mate!

Afternoon sir. Just dropped off a Winchester 1812 for total restoration and happened to come across a bowie knife. Not sure if it's a replica or the real thing.
