Added these books to my ever growing tbr. I recently got through the Bible books you recommended and The Iliad. I found an edition I liked of the Odyssey the other day. Just when I thought I was relatively caught up... haha

Huh, OK. I found Ovid, but translated by Mandelbaum, for $1.50, so I'll work with that. It seems to be relatively smooth sailing. Anyway, it will be interesting later to compare with the Gregory translation (and also with the Mandelbaum translation of Virgil).

Thanks to you and these videos, Elena and I are doing a buddy read of the Bible books you suggested. Maybe we will move on to the Romans next?

So do I - but this is THE BASICS! No Seneca, no Tacitus, no Plautus, no Cicero - just the basics!

Hi Steve, I'm working my way through your Western Canon starter kit and it's great so far. Any chance you could put it in a playlist? I'm struggling to find them all in your video catalogue as they're not numbered and I want to make sure I'm not missing any!

Steve, you read a bit faster than me, I think. :-D Do you consider Adler's Great Books of the Western World a good, more comprehensive list? I'm using this as my base and supplementing with architecture (my profession) and additional philosophy. Thanks, Andrew

I'm not able to speak for Steve, but I'd say it's definitely a good start. People may take issue with some of the more contemporary works, and it doesn't contain everything, but most of the essentials are there. There is an updated version that expands upon the initial list as well, with a little more added from the 19th/20th centuries.

Did Aeneas really invent the pizza 🍕or just the open face sandwich 🥪 and is there really any meaningful difference between the two? 🤔

What?!1!? You are talking about the Romans without mentioning the Romans? In church they always said it like "let's read in the Romans..." and they did not open up Ovid. But, then again - maybe that is what is coming next(Acts 22:25)?
