This repot went well. The core of the bonsai had rotted out and thus truly needed a repot and clean of the “sheen” area. I remember last year before the initial styling the top had wilted and new growth had appear in early spring. So I’m imagining that this was the core rotting out. I do leave areas of the root ball intact, as I like thinking of the reporting as open heart surgery.
