Western Larch & Travis Belote

This is a portrait of the Western Larch tree, one of the only conifer trees in the world that loses and replaces its needles each year. Like most deciduous trees. the larch pulls its chlorophyll back into itself showing yellow pigmentation instead. Travis Belote of the Wilderness Society introduces the larch.

Wonderful portrait of the huge, old western larch! We had them on our ranch in south-central Washington. The pioneers of the valley made fence posts from them.

Hello! I am trying to identify young western larch trees on my property. I’m looking to identify trees that are 18 inches tall or less. What does a baby western larch look like in the winter vs other seasons? Any advice would be appreciated! -Molly
