As a WMU grad (1973), I guess I'm biased, but your comment comes across as pure sour grapes. Mid-American Conference teams usually are the cupcakes for the Ohio States and Michigans of the world. Not always, but usually, MAC teams take their lumps in Columbus or Ann Arbor, usually by 30, 40 or, ugh, 50 points, but whether its Western or Central Michigan or Northern Illinois, we rebound and have a good season and maybe get a second tier bowl game. The 2016 WMU team had an extraordinary season. They beat two mid-level Big Ten teams and trounced most MAC teams with exciting, imaginative football. As a former journalist, I can tell you the great story is not always the obvious story. I once covered a small college basketball tournament and one of my features was on the Fighting Camels of Campbell College, a little North Carolina school which came out from under the shadows of North Carolina and North Carolina State to get natonal recognition of its own. The non-Big Ten or non-SEC schools produce their share of pro football stars. This ESPN feature brought up the story of Greg Jennings, a WMU star who went on to an All-Pro career with the Packers. I live in San Francisco and I know 49er fans are forever grateful for the All-Pro contributions of Central Michigan guard Joe Staley, who was part of a Niner Super Bowl team. So, please, Jemaine, quit your whining and let the other team have the spotlight for 15 minutes of fame.
