Thank you for doing theese videos. I just ordered my first Western Mountainering bag. Went with the Megalite for backpacking. Crazy how this company goes under the radar.

Isn't it though? Man you are going to love that Megalite, let me now how it works for you if you get a chance! Thanks for watching, take care, Matt

I am totally surprised that you don’t have a lot more subscribers. Your review of all these Western Mountain earring. Sin bags has been fantastic. What do you favor in the extreme cold as a sleeping pad to put under your Cypress? If you don’t mind me asking, what gloves are you wearing in this video?
@mattsmountainmadness8 ай бұрын
Thank you for the compliment, Iv'e only been at for a short time. In response to your Questions, I usually use an Exped Megamat 10 LXW. It is 4" thick and is good to -40 or so. I also have an Exped Megamat Max 15 LXW which is 6" thick, good to -70. I generally use it for longer, colder trips. Both are uber comfortable. when I was 25 I could sleep on rocks. Today, not so much. I battle more than a couple sleep disorders so I make my sleep system as premium as I can. I usually don't camp far from my 4Runner, or I will pull a sled a short distance and make a couple of trips. What I am saying is that I have the luxury of being able to bring a larger, heavier sleep system than I would if I were backpacking it. The gloves I am wearing in the video are from Minus33. They are a merino wool liner glove. I use them all the time. I have a video titled "Winter Camping Layering System" in which I go over all my clothing if you would like to check that out. Thanks for watching and for the kind words! take care. Matt

@LouieWingsIt You got it, one thing I haven't mentioned about this bag, it was my first Western Mountaineering sleeping bag I purchased, and the last I would give up. In my opinion, with the massive interior space allowing for multiple layering options, this is THE bag I would use in temps. below -40. It is big enough to stick one of my warmer weather bags inside, plus have plenty of room on top of that for added layering. My overfilled Cypress already has over half a pound more down in it than a Feathered Friends Snowy Owl, which they say is the "Warmest Sleeping Bag on the planet", plus it has layering room on top of that. Manufacturers can say what they want, but this is my choice for the coldest of temps. If you do pull the trigger on getting one of these, I'd love to here back what you think of it. Thanks for watching, and I'm glad I could help. Take care, Matt

@@mattsmountainmadness A huge help man! I’ll be using this in northern most point of Norway this winter, and Canada next year, it seems the most up to the job. Like you said, the space allows for extra layering which in my opinion makes it a better choice than the bison if taken advantage of. Being in the UK - no one stocks the cypress & western mountaineering don’t ship international👎 Im going to do an extensive search on the best place to buy from, cheers Matt

I have slept out in the elements in January using my Wiggy's Ultima Thule -20 bag with zero problems! It got down to -12 that night. Wiggy's bags are the way to go!
@mattsmountainmadness4 ай бұрын
That's great! I'm glad it is working well for you. There are definitely Wiggy's fans like yourself out there. For me, I've rolled exclusively with down bags and garments for 50 years. Not much chance of me becoming a fan of Lamilite or Jerry Wigatow anytime soon. But, I respect those like you who are. I just want people to be warm and comfortable in their bags, regardless of brand or insulation type. Personally, I will stick with Western Mountaineering. If you glance at my videos, you'll see that I own and review several of them. They are "the way to go" for me, but certainly not for everyone. I really am happy that you love your Wiggy's sleeping bag. What makes me sad is knowing that there are too many people out there that hate the sleeping bag they own, regardless of brand or model, and it is keeping them from going camping. You and I are fortunate that we own bags that we love! Thanks for watching, and enjoy your Ultima Thule -20, Matt

The only down bag I have is an old Moonstone Mountaineering Pacific crest trail )made in (U S A) and I love.that bag as well. Mr. wiggy is a strange one. I think it's more from where he's from than anything. Enjoy your channel. Much respect!

Moonstone Mountaineering! I haven't heard that name in ages! That is too cool. I still own my father's Snow Lion down bag from the 70's. (Keeps my dog warm camping these days). Thanks for your comments, I appreciate you viewership. Take care, Matt

Does WM make a cheaper semi rectangular bag with the collar?, I def would use that lower zipper option. Looking for a good -15 or so bag. Don't like the mummy constriction.
@mattsmountainmadness6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, no. All Western Mountaineering bags are expensive. The Bristlecone is a -10F bag that I have slept comfortable at -15. It is less expensive than the Cypress by about $250, and has the same interior dimensions. Hope that helps. Matt

Great information, thanks! I’ve been looking at the Megalite 6’6” model being that I’m 6’6” myself. Seems like all their tall bags state 78.7” as the maximum length. Does this mean I’ll be at the extreme limit of the bag length, or is that a comfort measurement? Thanks.
@mattsmountainmadness2 ай бұрын
@Rum_barrel It will be close. I'm 5'10 1/2" and have a 6' Sycamore. When I lay on my side with my bottom leg straight, my toes sometimes touch the bottom of the bag. The Terralite at 25F is offered in a 7' model. For me, I prefer a little room down there. If you tend to sleep on your back with your toes pointing up, then you should have just enough room in a 6' 6" bag. The Badger and the Kodiak are also offered in 7' as well. Not sure why the Megalite isn't available in the 7' version. I have a friend who is 6'7" and suffers through with a 6'6" Mountain Hardware bag. Not ideal. If you are OK with little to no wiggle room in length, then the 6'6" model could work for you. I wish you luck in your decision making process. Thanks for watching! Matt

It really is. The color is actually Sage, and reads green in most light. In my green tent it is sand colored, and in the sun it's gold! But, whatever the color, it's a foot thick of downy heaven, I can tell you that for sure!
