Happy to hear it! I’ve come a really long way since this video. Machining aluminum baffles on the lathe, making custom CNC machine, parts and testing as far as within SOS scope and 2 dB meters, I went a little crazy, and developed my own suppressor, 29 dB quieter than the closest competitor with seven office shelf top of the line air gun suppressors. Then I made a 3-D printed model, I have videos on all of it. Appreciate the feedback though for sure.

Question, my trigger stopped working out of the blue so I mailed it in under warranty as the guns only two months old it comes back and it’s louder than it was.. The same muffler can was still on and reinforced it more but the gun is louder.. Do you know what could be the reason or adjustment that could cause this? Could it just be the back adjustment giving it more power? Your take?
@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining21 күн бұрын
Hey man, it could be the regulator. If you're getting higher velocity also, that's probably it, otherwise, can you tell me anything else about the characteristics of the gun? Is it shooting as accurately, how much kick, velocity, and projectile, weight and type, cycling, trigger pull??? The regulator is adjusted at the front of the dial just above the bottle, you can turn it with a 1.5mm allen or the like, and left is higher as it opens the valve, right is lower as it closes it...

Niiiice range! I'm jealous. When I saw folks using those DonnyFL's, I googled the stack pictures, and could definitely see they aren't very efficient. And while the Rattler/Sidewinder is better, it could still be much quieter. I like to imagine that it "could" be backyard quiet. I do wonder about any air leaks from it being a semi-auto action though. Do you feel like there is much noise from the breech? But I get your desire to impulse buy a DonnyFL because it's easier. I've kinda figured I'd do that( not for the Western's) just to have a base to start modifying. Assuming the rear threads have a shoulder to square up to and keep in alignment, I'd gut the rest of the stack and probably "print" a new one. I feel 3d printed has a place here since there's no heat to deteriorate the plastic, and the outer metal shell will help with stresses. Two points against the Rattler stack: 1) That tube through the middle is going to tend to guide a bunch of air straight out the end. It would be better to delete the tube, and put outer spacers between the washers. But maybe they did it this way to help stay off the ATF's radar. Other US airgun manufacturers have real stacks though,.. like Benjamin and Airforce. 2) Symmetry: Depending on its thickness, you could possibly redrill those holes in the tube at an angle. Drill through both sides from one side and do not alternate drilling angles. That way you end up with an asymmetrical push on that jet of air so that it hopefully ends up hitting a baffle. This is a lot of what differentiates older/simpler designs from the newer more efficient ones. Modern designs don't only rely on expansion of the gasses. You have to redirect the jet going down the middle. Consider when you're driving down the interstate with your window open, and a slight breeze pushes that 70mph wind into your left ear. That is what you want to accomplish in your stack,..and all in one direction.

So I think the western needs a way for the air to get out, it needs a muzzle, brake, and some holes in the suppressor shroud. I don’t think 3-D printed stuff is going to be good for this at all, I actually have a video I have to upload. I made an aluminum solid piece to go inside my trident because it had the wrong size threads and I tried to use a bushing, but it wasn’t completely straight and damaged the inside, and that’s one of my favorite moderators because of the brake compensator and it just reduces sound better, but now, after making a couple of modifications to the internals, I made one solid piece of aluminum from 1 1/2 inch aluminum bar stock, and I machined it to fit exactly in the lip at the compensator, and the rest of the way down is all thick baffles that are V cut with holes machine through each baffle in the center going both directions so on all four sides. I will post the video later today if you want to take a look. That moderator is 19 dB quieter than my quietest moderator.
@rcrdps8144 Жыл бұрын
@@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining Will check it out. But I will say that 3d printing can handle a lot when heat isn't involved. You of course have to make things thicker than if you were making them out of metal,...
@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining Жыл бұрын
@@rcrdps8144 but these are air guns, there is no heat. The compressed air actually makes it cold enough to condensate. Aluminum is a very solid option because it absorbs sound better, it’s more resilient and durable, and will not break. I feel 3-D printed plastic is flimsy most of the time unless you’re using good wire, but instead of a 3-D printer, I ended up buying a CNC mill and a lathe, and they have been machining aluminum that way for moderators because anything else is too heavy. I am 29 dB quieter than the best moderator I’ve bought and I have bought so many I’ve lost count. And now I have modified almost every single one, the same way with similar results on all of them. Trust me, I’ve tried and tested it. It works.

@@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining I think we basically agreed on the heat "argument". I have 2 3d printers, cnc, and 2 lathes. I've done a form1 AR silencer on a previous lathe and mill. I still wager that a 3d printed stack inside a harder shell( cf tube), can be designed to withstand an airgun, and the flexibility of CAD and printing would allow it to be made more efficient. Simple K baffles machined from delrin work quite well on airguns, but you always want to push the envelope. I'd print in either PC, CF Nylon, or with Syria tech sculpt on my resin printer.
@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining Жыл бұрын
@@rcrdps8144 Agreed, I do have a tendency of pushing the envelope, but if your using derlin, and the material is good quality I think it's totally possible. Just not sure if it would be MORE effective, but i'd be interested to see. I don't have a 3d printer. I've considered buying one, but I just like making things out of metal better, so I have the MR-1 CNC, a 500lb Lathe, and milling table, bandsaw, plasma cutter, multiprocess welder, etc, etc. But I'm honestly interested in the theory.

You just don't understand the science of what you were attempting to do. And I don't have the time to explain it. However we will tell you what to use to make it quieter. Instead of using door insulation, use yellow sponge. It is more porous and can be compressed because between the baffles just the right thickness to produce the effect you are looking for. You want it wrapped tight. Just try it and see. It's what I use in the one I made for the hammer.50 cal. Donny FL don't compare. Wish you much success.
@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining Жыл бұрын
The science behind it on that gun is a decibel meter reading 19 dB lower. So that stuff I ended up taking out and I ended up using a foam insulation that is very pliable similar to a yellow sponge, but a little bit more dense. Still has enough opening for air to flow through more freely than that insulation would, but I used it on a couple of suppressors already. Only the ones that are not baffled and I did use it on part of that one because it really does muffle the sound between the baffles, and I get a much lower reading on the decibel meter, so obviously it definitely makes a big difference. The Donny FL suppressors I used the same material to go over the little bit of felt and wiremesh, and had similar results. But the one I had the best results on is the trident, I made my own baffling for that and took 1/2 inch hollow steel tubing and bored out lines smaller than a 22 on four sides because I was putting it out at 22, then put five washers, one of which fit right in the bottom, where the machines part of the old plastic that was inside used to fit and set it perfectly center, the others for sound reduction, and used the bottom plastic piece. That was the original one heated that and put the steel tube in the center of it to guide that perfectly center on the bottom, and that is the quietest suppressor I have. I will do all of that in place, drilled out the holes to exactly half an inch in the middle of the washers and machine to the outside to fit perfectly in the tube. Best suppressor I have by far! 56db
@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining Жыл бұрын
Maybe you should look at some of my more recent videos, I haven’t been using door insulation. I have been machining, solid, aluminum bar stock, and making my own baffles with holes in each direction in between each one. I have been 19 dB quieter than the most quiet suppressor I have bought, which I have bought all the major brands. How’s that for science?
@MorningStar-DCLXVI Жыл бұрын
@@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining that's about exactly what I did. I made my own baffles and drilled holes from one chamber to the next. First is the blast chamber. Then after that is 4 in the first, 3 in the second two I'm the second, 2 in the third, and 1 in the fourth. The last three have no holes. However I did use yellow sponge in-between all my baffles to cushion the sound. Also I used a ten inch tube (infinity). It is Hollywood quiet.
@Cjsairgunscarsandmachining Жыл бұрын
@@MorningStar-DCLXVI I like that! I tried it with salt, but you can see in some of my videos. I did some machining of the aluminum barstock for the baffles, and made a video of it, and a couple videos where you can see the suppressors tested for decibel readings next to each other. Pretty hard to debate with that. Sounds like you and I had a lot of thinking alike. I didn’t change the amount of holes. I did all four holes in every section, and I did the Trident moderator and kept the flip compensator at the end, and I did holes in both directions, making four holes in each section between the baffles. Worked fantastic, literally quieter than any other suppressor I’ve bought, and the only one that’s actually quieter is the Bohemeth from edgun, that thing is unbelievable. They used heavy steel tubing for the center, with holes as many as screening, and they used rat wool like from a Russian war coat is what it says, it works unbelievable! And I’m shooting heavy 25 caliber, and even 35 caliber, I bought the 35 the new 9 mm in 450 mm barrel because of the 130 cc Plenum and 470 cc bottle, then I bought a 25 caliber barrel and magazines, so I can get the most power out of that, and I got the smallest jets and largest puck, I’m still testing with it, I’ll have a video of that shortly
