The Westfield State University Urban Education Program (UEP) recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. For decades, the program has helped first generation students, students of color, and low-income students attain college degrees. Seven students enrolled in the program in 1968, the first year it was offered. To date, over 1,500 students are alumni of the UEP. WSU Dean of Undergraduate Studies Christina Swaidan, Director of Urban Education Azanda Seymour, and UEP student Raylynn Kauila joined Carolee McGrath to discuss the success of the UEP and why programs like this are valuable for underserved students.
