I really want to get induction in my van at some point so that I have multiple options for cooking. I’ll need to upgrade my power (and probably solar) first, though.

Yep, if you're off grid 12v you need a decent system ~ Lauren

I noticed this doesn't make noise, like my Xiaomi induction cooktop does, from the fan. It's unpleasant.

Sounds like it would be unpleasant! ~ Lauren

Can I use on a metal surface if the unit is sitting on a wooden breadboard or is that not enough distance between the unit and the metal surface?

Some aluminium pots have a ferrous disc in the base for compatibility with induction ~ Lauren

Excellent video, Lauren! Ordering now. When you said about not using it on metal surfaces, I am thinking of using this on the caravan external drop down picnic table which I think is metal. Would it work if the cooktop was placed on a plastic chopping board on the picnic table?
@SnowysOutdoors Жыл бұрын
@andrewmcdonald667 sorry, I've just seen your comment now. I'd probably go with a wooden or bamboo chopping board over a plastic one, better insulative properties so less chance of conduction. Hope that helps! ~ Lauren

I only have a small inverter. When you first turn it on, can you make it start with 200W first or is it set to a higher wattage as default? My previous induction cooktop always started at 2000W, blowing the fuse. And only then I could turn it down, which is rather stupid.

Thats an excellent question John, I'm sorry we dont have the answer for you. I'd say given Westinghouse is purely a domestic brand, this induction cooker has been designed for 240v in mind, so I dont think considerations to lower start up wattage, etc would have been given. Hopefully someone else can provide abit more info! ~ Lauren

I don't have this unit, but had the same sort of issue till I realized that all you need to do is start the unit with nothing on the plate, so instead of powering on you will get an error message. Then set the temperature rating (for me it's 800w which draws less than the 100a my lifepo4 battery's continuous discharge rating), put on your pan and cook away. During the sunny months (Oct - Apr) I do most of my cooking on it (3ah for 250ml of boiling water). They really are a great convenience. I've had mine for roughly 4yrs, and been using it regularly in my van for the last 3.

induction cooktops are not meant to heat up if this heats up as explained then it is not a 100% induction cooktop - Shame on this review absolute shite
