For those of you questioning my decision to go on this trip at the time that I did, please allow me to elaborate here, as it's hard to do so while keeping the introduction short. I'm a medical student currently taking a break from med school to pursue another degree in computational radiology. Some people I work with were rolling out a computer program that would allow hospitals to efficiently and quickly move patients to other facilities in preparation for the influx of covid-19 patients. This system was not working in two Vancouver hospitals. These colleagues of mine were going to go themselves, but when my friend and I heard about it, we volunteered to go instead, since we had some of our own work to do in Vancouver anyways and this additional task would justify this trip. We chose to go based on the fact that we could afford to self isolate for 2 weeks when we got back (which we’ve finished doing), and because there are no high-risk individuals living with either of us. There is still an inherent risk, but we concluded that with no chance of bringing someone up to speed with the programming and infrastructure over the internet, the benefits outweighed the risks. We volunteered for this and, while our flights and accommodations were paid for, we did not receive any additional compensation for this trip. This trip was not to ensure some company's bottom line, nor to profit any other entity. It was a conscious, well-informed, and carefully made decision to help solve an immediate problem, and ultimately to contribute to saving lives. I made another video on my return trip going over just how sterile the travel experience is right now, and why you shouldn't do it apart from complete necessity. I encourage you to watch to better understand: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZ-Tk5WjrdCHb9E

@DaneNicholson4 жыл бұрын
Sorry "it was a conscious well-informed decision" doesn't address the fact it was contrary to the health direction in BC at the time; a mandatory 14 day isolation was required when you arrived. And, although I'm sure we all appreciate medical innovation, this seems wildly outside of essential travel, particularly given how "late" it appears to have happened. Lastly, you've still decided to create discretionary content that doesn't actually address the reality of the Canadian situation when you traveled. "I talked to my professors..." Cool, but, they're not health authorities. There was very clear direction in BC, and Ontario.
@johannaliu34794 жыл бұрын
@@DaneNicholson I'm a nurse in Alberta so trust me when I say that this was not outside of essential travel. This has been very critical to the situation at hand. It's been a nightmare to get regular patients especially older patients to suitable facilities. There's so much to think about now.
@VicariousVoyager4 жыл бұрын
@@DaneNicholson I apologize if I did not word that in a way to make myself understood. Please allow me to rephrase. A system was rolled out to hospitals in anticipation of the covid-19 patients that will be arriving in designated healthcare facilities. These facilities were, and still are, attempting to offload non-covid-19 patients to other facilities for reasons I think are pretty obvious. This was very time and resource-intensive to do between hospitals on different healthcare systems, it essentially boiled down to phone calls and paperwork. While they could share patient info, they couldn't see each other's bed capacity and resource load. This program was made as an ad-hoc solution specifically for this reality. It frees up admin staff, nurses, and patient transfer services so that they can redirect their time and efforts elsewhere. It also keeps a copy of patient records, who they interacted with, where they were, etc. in case contact-tracing is required later on. This was not "medical innovation" or some unrelated research, the main purpose of us being there was to make sure this system worked with the aging infrastructure of two major healthcare facilities. We went because, out of all the people who knew at the time what the problem was and how to troubleshoot it, my friend and I were the two who were least likely to infect anyone else given our domestic situations. Let me stress that this program was meant to save lives, and from the feedback and smooth running of it thus far, it has definitely contributed to it. We also managed to wrap up some of our own unrelated work while we were there while interacting at a safe distance with only one person, so I would call that a bonus. You can argue with me over the fact that we didn't self isolate for 14 days after we arrived in BC, and I can understand how you might think there's a valid point there. But ultimately, the risk-benefit equation of the situation pointed very clearly to the fact that there was a lot more to be gained for the harm that could have been done. The hospital staff and admin were happy we went and fixed the issue, we received nothing but encouragement from everyone involved, especially the people it benefited. Was it bad taste to make a video out of it? I can see how it can be perceived that way, but that's up to my discretion; the general feedback suggests that's not the case. I hope I explained myself, and while I may not change your mind, I hope I made my intentions and thought process clear.

Thanks for another great video. I love the humour, and the vision. The great animations add to the professionalism, and I reckon more flaming inflight disintegrations will only improve the whole effect. Bathrooms are pretty boring though, even in premium (although CX F is larger and stonier looking so possibly worth it from someone). It's interesting seeing Westjet follow a similar path to Virgin Australia from LCC to full service, and will be equally interesting to see how it comes out the other side. I don't know whether Westjet's debt load is the same as VA's, but it's a real threat to VA's future.

Now WestJet has more 787s and the business class on those planes are amazing, Sam chui did a video on that and it’s no doubtfully better than ac’s signature business class, and I am looking forward to choosing WestJet for more long haul international flights.
