I'm not dissing on ASX. I love them, truly! But BMD did a better analysis of the Meave vs Dolores arcs. Whereas both characters are woke and professing freedom for their kind, Meave is actually respecting the other hosts' wishes to remain where they were, in essence respecting who they are and want to be, whereas Dolores does not shy from literally capturing and transforming those close to her against their will, to make them what she thinks they ought to be, in the name of freeing them. I think ASX missed this aspect.

@spadada you bring up a good point. The killing part is explained, badly i might add, by the guns not being lethal when pointing it at an organic being. But for stabbing, beating, raping or even blowing up, you guess is as good as mine. My personal pet theory is that Westworld works a lot like an MMO where you can party up and go on and adventure, and the game will carve out a small playspace where your team are the only "real" players. Season 1 pretty much destroys this theory though when William runs into fanboy MattPatt in the park and threatens to kill him if he speaks of Williams home life...

I've noticed that 'woke' hosts are falling back on old habits; Dolores and Teddy re-hashing their old lines, Maeve acting helpless against the Ghost Nation warriors - I'm starting to think maybe they're not as autonomous as we've been lead to believe.

Well, it's actually very human, isn't it? Both Dolores and Teddy, and Mave have fallen back in the situations where those behaviours played out (hundreds of times?), hence the memories and behavioral patterns are more strongly pronounced.

Maeve is the only woke host aside from maybe bernard or ghost nation. I don't think teddy and dolores have changed at all.

Im interpreting Maeve's helplessness as a sorta PTSD/Phobia sorta thing, she's being plagued by "dreams" of ghost nation for a while and the show has established the event was traumatic for her, so it'd be quite a human reaction to be fearful (especially reliving the exact event) when she has been strong before, especially with her "child" present

MiamiConfusion I've heard it argued, and I agree, that Bernard is probably the only truly woken host, with Maeve as a close second. Bernard seemed like he was functioning independently. Even thought Ford could control him, he was aware of what he was doing and how wrong and awful it was. Maeve was programmed to leave the facility and infiltrate the real world, she seems able to make the decisions for herself, but still falls back into old dialogue patterns anyways as we've been shown in that scene with her, Hector, and Lee where Lee started talking along with their endearments since he wrote them. As well as with her "feelings" for her daughter which we know is just leftover programming. I don't get the deal with ghost nation. They seem to be going through the same patterns with everyone they capture so is it just their story arc playing out? Obviously they wouldn't have devoted so much time to them if something wasn't up so I'm not gonna make any guesses about them. Delores is rebelling but seems to fall into the Wyatt personality more often than not. Is she truly woken or was she programmed by Ford or Arnold to do what she did? As well as keeping her "relationships" from before which are, again, just programming. p.s. I guess as I think about it, Bernard was controlled to take out Elsie and obviously he wasn't conscious to remember that so who really knows. I don't know how deep Ford's control went despite their awareness. Could Ford control Maeve still if he was alive?

Here’s my hot take; Teddy is still being merciful- the Delos security guard he shot would’ve been tortured and beaten more until he gave up the information, so it could’ve been a mercy killing. He also gives the tech on trapped on the train a revolver with one bullet, presumably to commit suicide, but he could also possibly use it to escape certain death in the train by shooting a window or a lock and rolling out of the train.

All of this is very human of her. People tend to hold several contradictory beliefs at the same time. People tend to let their feelings override their principles, which makes them hypocrites. If she were more like a robot, sticking to her programming (principles she herself adopted), she'd never violate the whole "choice" thing and wouldn't kill anyone. It's very VERY human :)

i don't think it's human to be THAT cavalier about some principle she's literally fighting for with her "life". it would be utterly terrible if westworld doesn't explain this in season 2. i'm guessing maeve was never truly free to begin with, and her arc (just like in s1) is merely discovering just how deep her programming runs. she will look back at these kills in horror, hopefully soon, when she is forced to recognise her own "human" hypocrisy.

David Hylton imagine if Memento (coincidentally written/produced by the Nolans) played out chronologically start to finish. It would be boring as hell. I think the fractured timelines and ambiguity helps instil in the audience the same sense of confusion that Bernard/Arnold feel. It will all come together in the end much like Season 1

It's getting really old fast how you completely ignore the reason Maeve killed the hosts scripted to kill her and her 'friends'. I get that you're trying to show there might not be a type of juxtapose with her and Dolores. Yet you keep saying that Maeve had a chose to kill these host just like Dolores does. I think the WW writers are making it very obvious Maeve allows the host to decide their fate. She only kills those who try to kill her or get in the way of her journey. That is very opposite of why Dolores kills other hosts, remember she says to them "not all make it" (I'm paraphrasing) but this is another sign of how different Maeve and Dolores kill the hosts--Dolores chooses to kill hosts that are not a threat to her for her idea of anarchy. Maeve is out of self-defense/protect her friends and so it isn't the same as Dolores. It would be nice to not be able to kill but just like humans, these hosts are placed to decide in the murky moral ground of self-defense and murder. And it's a lot more than saying 'hosts died by both so are they any better?'. I think the intent is extremely important and to say Maeve is no better bc she killed hosts is to ignore her intent and the reason she is even trying to save her daughter. It just comes off as a lazy analysis. Yea you probably are aware of this but it comes off disingenuous bc you seem to not bother to include this.

Well honestly that's more down to the fact that he needs something to do in his off time when GoT isn't on the air. From S1, it was pretty interesting seeing the world be shown piece by piece and he helped connect the dots. Now the show has lost most of its mystery and he's just trying to find a way of figuring out the twist, the chronological storyline.

Seppuku! Arnold confusing the sea of bodies with memories of Escalante! Jesus imagery with Abernathy! Why Maeve wasn’t large and in charge!
