Used the dorman part and it worked perfectly. Discovered moisture behind the plug so water was eventually coming in. Super easy job you guys!!! Turn the wheel hard left, crawl under the truck and use your right hand to hold the fender liner and left hand to pull the tabs back with pliers and it's that easy. Put the elbow on (slight wiggle starting from the bottom to the top) and boom, it's on. Wipe with alcohol wipe and apply tape over the elbow. Job complete. Took me 10 mintues from start to finish.

Thanks. I was able to get to it from the top. Not easy getting that rubber elbow on the pipe. I used a little dielectric grease. Finally got it on. I did not have a wet floor though. Didn’t put tape on. Not sure what the tape will do. How ford engineers thought this original design was good is beyond me. 2020 F150 5.0 King Ranch.

Thank you for making this video. I also avoid going to the dealer at ALL cost. Dealing with this issue now. I got the elbow for $4. So it probably cost Ford $0.04. That means somebody at Ford made a conscious decision that leaks and moldy carpet was worth saving 4 cents. Replacement carpet is going to cost $400 if I can't get rid of the smell. Thanks a lot Ford Accounting Department.

Due to schedules and locations, I was unable to get to the Ford dealership to buy the part. Neither O'Reilly's nor AutoZone have this part. However, I bought a ½" elbow PVC pipe ($0.67) and siliconed it in place, putting quite a bit of caulk at the bottom to seal. Then used the metal tape to hold it. We'll see.......

Thanks for the video. I have a 2011 Expedition and recently found a crazy amount of water on the front passenger floorboard. The drain tube on the firewall looks identical to yours and I have noticed that very little drips onto the ground when running the AC so I’m gonna try this fix
@Merritt32462 жыл бұрын
I put the elbow on my 2020 F350 yesterday, even though it was not listed on a TSB. Before I put the elbow on, I used side cutters to snip off the ring on the under side of the tube, then applied a little silicon caulking to the tube and slid it on. Instead of the tape, I used a worm clamp.

That's pretty straight forward. Mine is soaked on the driver side. They "fixed" the sunroof so the grab handle stopped pouring on me, but floor still gets SOAKED in the rain. Any idea where to start? And "GOLD CERTIFIED" doesn't mean $HIT if you can't get Ford to cover ANYTHING. It's been 4 months of ownership.

Ford dealership wants 300 just to install the elbow on my 2019 Lariat. That isn't including drying the carpet and such. I bought the piece for 5 bucs and I am doing it tonight. My truck smells terrible.
@davidbrunsden5033 жыл бұрын
No pliers required I just pulled it off, the plastic part that you stick the rubber elbow onto has a rib on the underside the rubber elbow is round which leaves two channels on either side of the rib I silicone caulked those channels and around the hole in the firewall extra precaution

Tape is not the best option in this hot environment. The tape adhesive will eventually fail. I’d use a proper size hose clap to secure the elbow. As far as that catch can goes I’d go with the Full Race option. I had both. Full Race worked better than the JLT for me. However, once I started modding/ tuning the truck I lost the proper vacuum properties (installed a TurboSmart BOV) to make the Full Race operate off the CCV side of the motor like it was designed. Ended up using a JLT instead on the PCV side; it worked great!!! Aside from the fact that it would fill up fast as hell. Noticed blow-by would accumulate more when towing. The vehicle was tuned and modded (Accel wires/ coils, NGK spark plugs, TurboSmart BOV, Full Race oil catch can (then a JLT), Full Race intercooler, SPD down pipes, and Full Race CAI. It was a 2016 3.5 Expedition dyno’d at 401hp/ 603lbs/ft torque at the rear wheels. I say “…the truck was…” because the EcoBoost started showing its flaws. Fouled MAP and MAF sensors from oil blow-by. Fouled, oil saturated plugs, etc. With over 700lbs/ft of torque at the flywheel, I’m sure it contributed to the rear end grinding it started right before I got rid of it. Oh, and the IWE’s, or Independent Wheel Ends. We’re making horrible noises. Swapped the OEM air actuated models with the “always engaged” option. Nope… constant “whirring” noise because your front axles and transfer case are always turning now. Not to mention the diminished fuel economy. Traded the Expedition for a 2024 Ram. I’ll never do an engine that’s not naturally aspirated again!!!

Same. I just bought a 2018 with 35k miles 2 weeks ago and found wet floorboard and also got a check engine light for p0018 and p0021.... going back to the dealer to hopefully fix it, which is a 3 hour drive, sucks to spend 40 grand and immediately have issues

@@joelexline9 Mine got issues with 500 miles on it. The wheel drive system didn't work well, it was making metallic noises, it pass after a month and then go bad again last May. Dealer fixed it for warranty but sometimes I still hear the noise. The other issue was the right tailgate installation wat not done properly. The tailgate light was like five mm off from the body. It was easy fix but it has been three things that really make me sad after paying 58k or something like that. also the dealer charge me like 500 us for fix the issue of my truck. So I guess, I shouldn't buy ford anymore after that. I want to keep it until fall apart this time.

How exactly does the water drip back into the foot wheel of the passenger side floor? I found a damp passenger floor today when I lifted my Husky floormat to clean it. I smelt the dank moldy smell and sure enough the floor was damp on the top side, with some white-ish colored mold on the under-side of the floormat and top of carpet. The jute underneath was also wet and moldy. It's weird because it was only wet in the passenger floor pan area. I didn't feel any moisture up towards the firewall or kickpanel area, nor did I feel anything coming from the rear of the vehicle or center console. Wonder why Ford cheaped out on something so simple.... even some plastic tubing coming out of the hole would've been better.
@TheSwampStalker3 жыл бұрын
Air blows the dripping water back to the firewall and it seeps in through the gap between the drain outlet and the metal. They didn't seal it very well at all. The elbow just makes sure it drips down instead of back to the firewall. Ford will add the elbow free of charge. I just prefer to do everything myself and avoid dealerships at all cost.
@chriswho67943 жыл бұрын
@@TheSwampStalker I have a 2016 F150. Doesn't really qualify for the tech bulletin... But I have the exact same style/looking drain. I think I'll buy the same elbow and install it. It seems Ford uses a foam rubber gasket to seal the drain tube against the firewall from the inside.
