You actually don’t have to load the blades like that, although you can. Not sure if people know this, but there a little nob on the blade loader that fits perfectly in the end end of the razor. It’s a small hole that lines up perfectly. Just gotta pinch and inject.

I use the Feather SS kamisori style and I love it. Its such a close shave and once you learn the technique, its very easy to use. I started out with the ProGuard blades and now use the Professionals. The ProGuards have little nubs on them that are supposed to protect you from nicking yourself but I didnt notice a whole lot of difference in terms of nicks from those to the Pros. What I really love about the AC razors is that it gives you the experience of a traditional straight without the hassle of honing and stropping. Every couple of weeks or so I just swap the blade out and its instantly the sharpest, most perfectly honed straight you will ever find.

Matt, You would have a much better "easier" shave experience using the Feather Artist Club Professional blades, less buffing needed. I use the Feather Artist Club Professional Super blades for full beard growth and the Pro's for regular use. Also, if you want to have a more "exciting" experience, try the Feather AC Japanese DX razor. It is WAY easier and more nimble. (no folding handle to get in the way). Because these blades are thicker than the feather DE blade and glide better/safer especially over scars and moles. The guard on this blade doesn't allow for full contact with the skin. Thus your experience. Great videos! love the honest opinions, reviews, and detailed feedback.

The blade you used are one of the mildest with a rolled guard and less exposure. I enjoy Polsilver's and PermaSharps so I'd say try the Pros's

Here are specifications on the five Feather Artist Club razor blades: Professional Light (PL-20): 0.254mm blade thickness, 7.4mm blade depth, 0.6mm blade exposure in DX razor, 0.4mm blade exposure in SS razor Professional Soft Guard (PSF-15): 0.15mm blade edge thickness, 8mm blade depth, 1.2mm blade exposure in DX razor, 1.0mm blade exposure in SS razor Proguard (PG-15): 0.15mm blade edge thickness, 8mm blade depth, 1.2mm blade exposure in DX razor, 1.0mm blade exposure in SS razor Professional (PB-20): 0.254mm blade thickness, 8mm blade depth, 1.2mm blade exposure in DX razor, 1.0mm blade exposure in SS razor Professional Super (PS-20): 0.31mm blade thickness, 8.2mm blade depth, 1.45mm blade exposure in DX razor, 1.25mm blade exposure in SS razor There is a plastic pin on the end of the cartridge that you could insert into an empty Artist Club razor, then strongly pinch the razor and (with your other hand) slide the cartridge mechanism to insert a new blade. With this (or the manual) method you may need to carefully seat the blade so there is equal exposure across it. For those new to this type of razor, it might be recommended that they choose the Feather Artist Club SS razor, which has a rounded tip that makes it more forgiving (and more affordable) than the DX razor, and the Feather Light or Soft Guard blades. Feather Super blades are definitely for those with much practice, due to their extended blade exposure. One can purchase an Artist Club blade sampler with all five Feather blades or three Kai blades (from Tryablade or Razorbladesclub), to see what is the best option for you before buying a full cartridge. Schick also produce Proline P-20 and P-30 blades (I think differing only in quantity) that can be used in Feather Artist Club razors, but are offered elsewhere.

Nicely done and explained Matt💈💈 I gave str8's and shavettes a shot many years ago, I could actually get a good shave but the time and anxiety caused me to ditch them and continue with DE's. I was working then, now being retired, no issue giving them another try😉 May just spring for the Feather Pro AC. I have an Asylum RX SE that uses AC blades, the thing is so aggressive I can hardly figure it out🤔and it was expensive. Great video again as always. Enjoy!

I’m wondering if the weight of the razor makes for a more controllable shave than other shavettes, say, like the Dreadnaught. That combined with the greater surface area of the Artist Club blade might be enough to bring me back to a replaceable blade straight razor.
@pumpkin91ful5 жыл бұрын
I can't decide between the Dx or SS model...the Dx is more Streght Razor looking/feeling but it's very expensive ,and i don't know if it will be too aggressive for my skin,the SS in the other hand is more economic and gentle but i see it like a learner/ prestige makeshift .

I have the clone from the SS. I have to say WOW, that is a nice razor! Mild, for a shavette like razor. I started with the blades with come with the razor... Medium sharp, but sharp enough. I have the Proguard but i bought the Super blades which are wider. 0.3mm more blade exposure. Looked scarry. The blades are the sharpest blades i ever used. Still, the razor was mild. But the blades cutting like a hot knife through butter! And yes, Schick is doing blades too!!

Awesome vid - been eyeing the artist club for a while now. Definitely recommend trying the feather artist club professional (black cartridge) blades. Seems you were using the pro guard ones, which actually have tiny fingers on it that act like the guard on an open comb DE. That’s likely why you didn’t get that close of a shave.
@MartinOcando5 жыл бұрын
Quite frankly, and with today's DE razors and blades being so smooth and efficient, I see no reason for a straight razor. Yes, it might be a solution for those suffering from lots of ingrown hairs, but for my face and beard type, I believe it won't provide a significantly different shaving experience. I might have similar face and hair that you have since I also feel feathers and kai's super harsh, my favorite as of today is the Gillette Platinum, but I also tried the Polsilver on a blade sample, and it was great.
@velofisher25 жыл бұрын
DE's are great but the fun of a straight or shavette centers around developing the unique technique and the reward of success. With ref. to straights, it's also an artform and craft to make a straight. Then theres the many aspects of honing that in time you can learn to make an edge so incredibly personalized for your face. And then there is the history and beauty of the old vintage razors. For me its just fun.

That first shavette or straight razor shave, defiantly has a learning curve that your face pays for! I love my feather!!! It’s easy to use. I still prefer a straight razor over the feather replaceable blades. A straight razor won’t be quite as sharp and leave you with a better post shave feel than a sharper blade of the feather.

How does a replaceable razor compare with a regular straight razor. Is it just convenience?
@bangbang512115 жыл бұрын
A normal straight razor will be much sharper they also have a much longer cutting edge. As far as closeness goes they'll be basically the same because you'd be stretching the skin.
@jensebu785 жыл бұрын
@@bangbang51211 nothing is sharper than the Feather Artist Club blades! A straight is not sharper! The straights are more forgiving because the blade is a little flexible. I have the Feather SS, an Aust straight and a Bluebeards Revenge shavette. The SS is pretty close to a straight! And the good thing, sharper blades but still pretty mild. Sounds crazy but it is! 😁

Those injector blades are extremely expensive, they are inching closer to the cost of cartridge shaving, which lead me to wetshaving in the first place. For the combined cost of this shavette and one pack of blades, you could have bought yourself a decent straight razor..... If you don't like maintaining a straight, just use a DE like the rest of us. Imo, these shavettes sit in a niche market for people who like new shaving toys and have money to spend, because DEs have it beat in terms of cost and ease of use and straights have it beat in terms of quality.
@glumfish68622 жыл бұрын
That is true but on the other hand usually people into traditional shaving spend so much on trying soaps, aftershaves, brushes, etc. that the cost of the blades either DE or these becomes negligible.

I would use, buy the artist only if the blades where 30 cents each. My DE blades cost me less than 0,12 € cents. Im not spending €1,30 for a Artist blade that only shaves 2 times.

In my experience, the Artist Club blades last at least twice as long as DE blades. Additionally, as they are thicker than DE blades, I find that the AC blades are way more efficient and comfortable, particularly when shaving multiple days worth of growth. I'm not getting rid of my other razors, but my favorites tend to use Artist Club blades.
