Weta Trimaran Rigging Tips

A few tips for reducing the time it takes to rig your Weta Trimaran. Anyone can rig this boat in 15 minutes (or less) with a little practice. Here's some ideas to save you time.

Some more tips I untie the screecher sheet from the screecher and leave it threaded through the blocks to save time. I also have much longer tramp tie lines so that they can remain tied on at the front while I place the amas over the main hull. I also thread the mainsheet through the coiled shroud lines on top of the tramp while using the mainsheet to hold down the amas - no ties required. And I wrap the halyard tails around the base of the upper part of the mast and use the forward mast bungee on the “moose head” to hold them in place, then put the tails inside the boat through the front hatch. The front hatch cover is attached to the boat with some bungee which is threaded through a small hole in the hatch and anchored to a P-clip screwed to the front bulkhead to save loosing it. I have switched to the bridle for the tiller (similar to the Laser setup) which I leave attached and thread the ama arms through the bridle as I insert them in their hull holes.

Tom, I enjoyed your tips. I'm curious about what equipment you're using to shoot your sailing videos and how you mount the camera. I assume having the dual tiller extensions helps since you're not hitting the camera mounting staff while trying to swing the tiller extension around the back of the boat.

I use a simple first generation Garmin VIRB mounted with a RAM ball system. Nothing fancy, really. For head-on shots I mounted a RAM ball to an ABS tube collar which slides onto the bowsprit and is held near the front with a collar clamp. My newer unit swings free and allows the camera to constantly seek the horizon. I use this on the Astus videos mostly.
