As someone who takes care of my dad with paranoid schizophrenia this movie was really hard, but I love how they took the stereotypes “nut case”, “crazies”, etc. and immediately makes the person who said it look like insensitive and disrespectful. It really is and a lot of people lack that empathy. Imagine living in a world where your family, friends, everyone around you thinks you’re insane when you are physically seeing and feeling these things. Beautiful awareness in this film

I loved this movie so much. I was expecting a cheesy fun October horror movie (which I enjoy) but was in shock at how much this movie went for it. It got dark. I actually appreciated the build up & time in between scares. Made the pay off feel more earned. And damn Sosie Bacon was awesome. Hope we get a sequel with Gallner. One of my favorites this year.

One thing I liked a lot about the movie is that the music somehow made sure you are anxious/on edge that the entity is around, even tho it wasn’t, it not only did that but it made you feel in a way feeling almost the exact type of anxiety and/or paranoia Rose was feeling 90% of the time in the movie. And when it is shown, the music goes berserk. The end credits music made me want to fucking leave the theater room quick, I haven’t felt actual fear from horror movie soundtrack since hearing Halloween (1978) soundtrack played for the first time when I was like 5 years old.

Great film, but I hated the ending. If they left it as a mental illness or largely unseen evil, it would be one of the scariest movies ever made. When you throw in a rediculous looking demon that rips it’s face off and climbs into your mouth, it takes away from the realism that could really make this movie more terrifying.

Im surprised you didnt mention the scene with the psychiatrist at the house and then it turns out to be the entity. That was one of the best scenes in my opinion. I felt they should have done more with her losing track of time. I called out the cat being in the goft box, but i wish they would have done more with it. Like if she accidentally killing her fiance without knowing it until the end. Would have made a bigger twist. Like if she killed the psychologist/entity with a knife but turned out to be her fiance. I would have preferred that. I liked it but felt it missed opportunities like having peoplein the background showing it creeping closer to her like IT Follows. Would have made it better. I liked the ending with what it did and would like to see a sequel with him in it.

As soon as I saw the cat on the screen, I immediately checked online to see if the cat dies (on screen animal deaths is something I don't do). It said that while the death is off-screen, its body is shown, then said the exact part of the film, so I knew when to look away. 😅 All the human death a mutilations? Okie dokie! Show me more! I really liked this movie however I have one major critique: It should have ended with her watching the house burn. I think this movie would have been an amazing message on mental issues, especially PTSD, if she walks out conquering the monster. This movie had such a good message of how mental illness can affect the mind and see her overcome it would have been really good to see. It will never go away but it can be conquered and that’s a good message. But no, they fake us out and then ultimately kill her for this curse to continue to Joel. Just another typical horror ending that felt unsatisfactory to me while the rest of the film was so good.

the one thing I will challenge is that the fiancé wasn't really a douchebag I think, I understand that like you should stick up for your partner and such but if my to-be spouse starts that crazy shit that she was doing such as the hallucinations/delusions and screaming outbursts from something she saw and the fact that she wasn't entirely in control of her body (which is why the cat died and was presented) I would be not only trying to seek help for her but I would fucking scared for my life especially since he was in his most vulnerable state sleeping in her house.

I have to disagree with the aspect of the CGI. In my opinion it wasn't well done at all. I won't blame the department but rather the budget and time limitations. The face that was ripped off was very visibly CG and unrealistic as well. For example, the guy still had facial expressions but he just got rid of his facial muscles. It didn't bleed enough for a face being removed etc. I'm not saying that to shit on the crew but I think less would be more for sure and rather practical than limited CG.

Movie is like JuOn, Ringu, Truth or Dare (because the smile), and It Follows. You can't stop it unless one person can kill themselves without no one present and probably stop the curse. So I have a theory. The sequel (which will come for sure) will be a sequel that looks into the past - a pre-sequel. Joel, the detective, has witnessed a suicide so he'd be next. But he's been looking into this case and has found evidence of previous incidents. He has to get to the bottom of this so he'll have to dig deeper into the PAST for the origins of this entity.

Dr. Rose Cotter is a therapist whose patient Laura Weaver dies by her own hand after claiming to have been haunted by an evil entity that smiles at its victims before possessing them to commit suicide. The entity kills Rose's cat and its presence causes Rose to appear insane to her fiance, sister, and her boss. Rose gets help from her detective ex Joel, who learns about the link between the entity and others who committed suicide after they witnessed suicides days before. One man, Robert Talley, survived because he killed someone, as that is the only way to prevent the entity from taking its victim. Rose contemplates killing one of her more disturbed patients, but she knows she can't. She drives to her childhood home to try and isolate herself so the entity will not pass onto anybody else. Although Rose thinks she has killed the entity, it tricks her and ends up possessing her to kill herself in front of Joel, meaning he will now suffer the curse

The boyfriend was shit because she knew it could never get too deep. She surely never expected to need actual consoling and care in such an extreme way as this, so the whole reason she was with him was because it was entirely surface level. She pushed Joel away because she felt real love and that terrified her because of how much self loathing and blame she carried for what happened (what she let happen) to her mom, so when she's chastising him for being fairweather and bailing as soon as it gets a little rough and Trevor is like "so what are we even doing this for?", the answer is "because until this happened I was ecstatic to have someone who I could never actually get close to".
@erickmuller
@erickmuller Жыл бұрын
Hearing you say there’s a lot of unnecessary scenes is not right. You just need more time to contemplate about why they were there. Like that last scene with Joel. The reason why that scene was there was clearly to let you understand why she couldn’t trust him when she saw him walk up to her and why she ran back into the house into her death. It’s because she couldn’t let her walls down with him. She couldnt let go of the thought that she would be rejected if she did that. It literally scared her to death. That’s one of the most necessary scenes if you think about it. Because it explains why she died and how she could have saved herself, which was by trusting someone to help you. Though who that someone should be is an open ended question. In my opinion the best person for her was Joel back before she left him after getting scared of letting her guard down. I wouldn’t have known this if it wasn’t for that scene that gave us that backstory.

I had a family of chatterboxes in my showing and it kept pissing me off. And then an hour in, a family comes in! Who the fuck lets people into a movie that late?! Who does that?! Great film, score, I agree with you on the shot composition, too. But my enjoyment of the film was muted by the shitheads in my showing. I want to see Halloween Ends in 4DX but what’s the point if I have another shitty experience?

I think it was more of an 8, one of the best horror movies I’ve seen probably since hereditary. Watching In the cinema the jump scares hit hard, but the creepiest part for me was towards the start when the main character is in her apartment and she sees somebody in the corner of the room in the darkness looking at her… holy fuck that gave me goosebumps haha
