Lyrics:
As long as I stand
To face the crowd
To know my name
To know its sound
It’s good to be soft
When they push you down
Oh God turn me into a flower
It always takes me
It’s such a curse to be so hard
You shatter easily
And can’t pick up all those shards
It’s the curse of losing yourself
When the mirror takes you too far
Oh God turn me into a flower
You see the reflection
And you want it more than the truth
You yearn to be that dream
You could never get to
‘Cause the person on the other side
Has always just been you
Oh God turn me into a flower

I had such an incredibly cathartic experience listening to this. Driving down a road that cut through thick woodland as the sun was low in the sky, deep orange sunbeams blinked through the perforated foliage, and as the sounds of nature poured out of the speakers I was taken over by a sense of deep wellbeing that moved me tears. Natalie, if you're reading this, you have such and extraordinary gift to give to the world. Please never stop using it.

I just lost my father a week ago and during this week I found "Titanic Rising". It's been a rough time since I've seen my father get worse and worse until the day he had his last breath in front of me, my mother and my brother. The only soothing thing I could find was your music. It calms me a bit and makes me think of my dad in a non tragic way. I still think of him but it doesn't hurt. So thank you for that.

For me, this feels like a successor to her song "movies" for some reason, but it's even more ethereal and mesmerizing. I love the steadily increasing volume of nature sounds like the birds chirping while the instruments and her voice are slowly fading out.
@alexz4752
@alexz4752 Жыл бұрын
It is. They're both about the relationship between escapism, denial, and narcissism. In Movies, Natalie gets lost in the fantasies of the stories she grew up with and dreams of herself as their main character, neglecting reality in the process. This song is what you get when those dreams don't come true and fall apart, because your imperfection makes you incompatible with them. God Turn Me Into a Flower is heavily inspired by the tale of Narcissus, a man who fell in love with his reflection because he saw it as perfect, but did not recognize it as himself. The third verse is Natalie's realization that although she dreamed she was the star of a show, she did not recognize the star as herself, and when she began to do so, the fantasy fell apart because it was incompatible with who she is. But she also saw her own beauty regardless of that. The "flower" symbolizes a better ability to cope with reality, one that is not concerned with achieving unrealistic or overwhelming expectations and is instead soft, flexible, and beautiful in and of itself. A symbol of acceptance of the self and reality. I love those two songs because down to the love of fictional narratives and how that led me to not recognize my image of myself, I have lived them both. Only now am I becoming the flower.

My interpretation of this song is that indeed it's a prayer, a masterpiece. I particularly love that every time she says "oh God, turn me into a flower" she changes it... As if she was shy or insecure somehow but grew along the way. This song also screams CPTSD... To look in a mirror and wish that you could have fulfilled your childhood dreams... I'm sorry, I can't explain that feeling.

I can fully understand what you mean. And for me, although I know it's silly, I don't want to see my favourite people in the world not resonate with my favourite albums in the world. I tend to be extremely protective of albums such as Titanic Rising or Bloom by Beach House as they mean so much to me that I don't want to feel shattered if my loved ones are just "meh" about them. Just found your works accidentally. Refreshing, unique, beautiful. Something very special. Reminds me a little of Julianna Barwick and Zola Jesus, who I really like, but also is different enough. Some very special sort of female power, away from any mainstream, nevertheless beautiful songs, equally beautiful arranged. Maybe transformational music is a good description. You simply can listen to this music, but you can also allow especially your heart and soul, to go much deeper and let the music reach some other areas. But it does not force you, it just shows you the doors, the decision, to open it and to enter through it, is left to every listener him/herself. Just as things should be - in a better world... Thank you!

I recently got out of a breakup with the person I loved for almost 2 and a half years, he meant a lot to me and it was all thrown away in the end, i ended up moving an hour and half away to my home in the Coachella Valley with my family, I recently started listening to Titanic Rising and it helped me a lot, it's one of my dreams to see Natalie in concert, I will forever cherish the day I see her. ♥️
