Susan, this looked impressive. We holiday at Weymouth every year and were "fortunate"? to be there late enough in August 2017 to see this year's Carnival. What happened?! Waited so long for it but it wasn't really the lateness that disappointed, it was the content. This video shows that last year's was at least twice as long!

Sue Bradford hi Sue, like most things, costs and more multinational companies in shops as opposed to family businesses means less floats. A lot of us local reminisce about the days when the carnival was choc a block with amazing floats and creations and would take a good couple of hours to pass by. Then we used to have big companies like the AUWE etc here. Those that do enter try hard so good on them. It also takes many volunteers to fund and run the event, which is getting harder each year to find people willing to give up their time. So sad. But it's a long family tradition with us, lots of our children, grandchildren come down for carnival week.

Susan Thanks for the reply. Our own carnival here in Stevenage was stopped years ago, and I dare say it's the same all over the country, it's down to cost and time for volunteers to help out. However, we love Weymouth!

Do u know that a guy with a machete was running around getting people the same day as the carnival so I had to go home early as he was coming my way

no Lucy, I didn't know that, haven't watched the local news lately. That sounds really scary.
