Nacionální výklady to totiž rády zkreslují...

Żiżka was for sure there with a contingent of Chech mercerines, it`s not clear if he lost his eye there, but there are some records of him saying so. No idea if he was sent by Wenceslas IV, or wasn`t just "working" for his money. Also taborites participated in the Varna Crusade. Lots of religious refugees from Bohemia were free in Poland to settle and work, most notably Jan Amos Komensky.

Zánik Moravi vznik tých troch kráľovstiev je komédia z Vatikánu. Keby moc moravy ostala. Bol by to nie aký štátny útvar a písalo by sa cirylikou. To by viedlo k zjednoteniu jazyka. I keby nárečie jestvovali ďalej. Možno by sa to ani nebolo morava. Veľká Morava je len dejepisny nazov. Lebo grécky kronikár nepoužil názov Moravská riša. I loved the video though I struggle to put the details in the context of an American's general familiarity with the incredibly complex history of Europe. over the last 1000 years. I don't think it would be possible to put colors on a map to depict the political character of each period of history depicted...there are too many overlapping realms. A simple example: when the Plantagenet kings of England held Normandy as part of their realm did that make Normandy English or French?

Also many familyies just died out in that war. Germans contributed alot to our state too, but they got eventually assimilated, with exception of Gdańsk and Toruń. We had this experience to compare, Germans from Austria are not the same as chavinists from "Prussia", settlement was impossible.

Austria actually has regions called Ostmark, Steinmark etc. i guess you know what the very name "Osterreich" stands for. They`re in fact Bavarians, whose settled there in medieval. The whole region was populated by some sort of Slavs, there also used to be some duchyies like Carantania, than a Mark.

@MaximusProteus Damn I can´t find any map considering inhabitation in Middle-ages..I have great maps at home (Ottův historický atlas). The tribes you named lived in the flatlands. In fact Libice is about 5Okm from my hometown..it´s 250 above sea level. Germans inhabited border regions, because Germany was overpopulated, and central Europe also suffered from Mongol invasion, so there were huge gaps of devastated areas in lowlands also(Moravia 1241), so kings naturaly invited them to live there
@Perokneznik
@Perokneznik 14 жыл бұрын
@MaximusProteus It´s easy to tell, because they mostly settled in the areas which were previousley unsettled. In middle-ages Czech population lived in the low lands (around Elbe,Moldau,Morava rivers) Germans started to colonize lands of higher attitude, because of their superior agriculture skills..and that were mostly areas of Sudets (mountainous range arroud republic) they also settled towns, where mining of precious metals occured (Jihlava, Kutna Hora,Stribro)

@Perokneznik For my knowladge, the first etchnic census around here was made in XIXc by Austrians and still it wasn`t clear since they included Jews as "Germans". I don`t know much about fiscal policy, nor about the criminal law in Bohemia, but what i know for sure is that peasants in general had no surnames until late XVIII/XIXc, eventually nicknames. The "border areas" such as Marks were in different places, Sudetes were a "border area" between Bohemia and Silesia if anything.

@MaximusProteus Well first global records of population were done in 18th century I think, but before you could get some picture from the taxcollecting books, or from crime recording books (smolne knihy). The fact is that the border areas were firstly inhabited by germans and they lived there for hundreds of years, there where counties were lived 95% of germans accordind to 1910 census (Egerland-Chebsko, Bruntalsko-Jaggernsdorf..atd..) sadly I cannot offer you a czech-speaking literature

@MaximusProteus you mean council of Constance for sure in 1415, and of course bohemian represention also opposed sentence for Hus :) at the time of Grunwald (1410) there was no active hussite movement, they were probably send by king Wenceslas IV. who favored Poles against his brother Sigismund who favored Teutons..in fact nobody knows if Zizka was really there, and on which side he fought, but more Czechs and Moravians joined Polish side .-)

@weyrother Right, Wacław was a duke at Płock only (duke of Płock), just a part of „Mazovsko”, the western part of it and not whole of Masovia as your map has it. And there you go, you can see for yourself what John of Luxemburg’s influence was - he happened to have been nothing but a one-time subjugator of the land (he besieged Płock and raided vicinity when Wacław eventually surrendered and pledged vassal to him) who could really care less about it - only he could gain some dosh on the rights.

@MrWWFattitudefan If we go deeper into this, we could find many more slavic tribes, nations inside HRE. Silesians at that time were also slavic, Poles lived there also, Lusatian Sorbs..and you can consider Moravians as single nation in that time (some consider themself moravians even today)

@dseano221 well in the time when this offer was made there was no commonwealth. Reason for this offer was very pragmatic polish king Jagiello was the only monarch in the neighbouring states who was not openly hostile against hussite movement. He even hosted hussite scholars at his court. But to accept bohemian crown in that time, he would risk another wars he could not risk because of teutonic knights

@MaximusProteus This is about this discussion and especially smoothwhatever..theoretically all christians were vassals to holy roman emperor, because he was head of western christianity..all you have to look is the exact power he had over his subjects..since 1212 he had very limited power over Bohemia..Luxembourgs were domestic bohemian dynasty..they were powerfull because of Bohemia not otherwise .-)..germanization is connected with 18th century (maria theresa, joseph II.)

@MaximusProteus Czech nobility ceased not to exist..protestant families left the country, but many of them were Lutheran Germans who came to Bohemia during 16th century..Catholic families such as Kinsky, Czernin, Lobkowitz, Sternberg, Valdštejn and many more remained..other families like Schwarzenbergs got domesticated, and now head of the family is our Minister of foreign affairs .-)

@Perokneznik So how`s about that "agressive" neighborhood? No idea what do You mean, i`m not reading all the discussions in the net, especially if most are full of rubbish... regardles of subject and nationality. Wasn`t King of Bohemia a vassal of the "Roman" Emperor? Nevermind that most of them were Germans, also these "Holy" Emperors like Luxembourgs or Habsburgs, Bohemia was getting germanised with the time, especially since 30 years war... I have no "agressive" intentions, this is just sad.

Do you know that the Czechs were to join the Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania of their own volition? That was near end of the life of Wladyslaw Jagiello - the king of Poland and Lithuania. He wanted it, but someone in Poland prevented him. I read it yesterday.

...The story was to do with the tense Teutonic Order-Łokietek’s Poland-John relation with Wacław in between. I should dig the subject to come up with any details on Wacław’s factual vassal obligations that have been honoured if you like but I could tell you there wasn’t much into it. And as you’ve written: „oranžově (...) znamená, že český panovník (...) neměl v dané zemi žádnou skutečnou politickou, nebo vojenskou moc”. Therefore I say that that part of Masovia at the time should be marked

@Perokneznik I see that you have already been answered, still I have to add my two Czech cents :) Bohemia was for most of the medieval era the stronger one of our two brotherly nations and our policy towards the Polish state could be hardly described as considerably less aggressive then theirs towards us. The fact that our state didn't travel around Europe as the Polish one could be easily explained with a glimpse at the topography of Central Europe. God bless our mountains! :)

@Perokneznik Eeeeee... most of this whole region was just a one wild forest and people generally lived along the rivers. In Sudetes actually lived a tribe of Croats, you should know that, as well as the clan Sławnikowic with "capital" in Libice. Czechs were a competing tribe located around Prague. If the German agricultural skills were so "superior", why they even bothered to immigrate? You can`t tell for sure when they made a 'majority'. What about Lemuzi, Luczane etc?

@3DSFuture I thought that we´re speaking about greatness of the kingdom not about nationality of it´s kings. In fact to speculate about nationality of medieval kings is as lame as your comments..in that time there were dynasties, loyalty to the souvereign, god and country..nationality is invention of 19th centrury..Jagellons came from Lithuania, Bathory from Hungary etc etc and you count them as polish, you caught in your own net

Greatest achievement of Czechs is that being a neighbour of such agressive nations as Germans, Hungarians, Poles are, or used to be in the past, our borders in 1100 years of our state´s history did not changed at all. Compare czech state in 1019 and now..maybe thats what angers some Poles, we achieved same thing, but without millions of unnecessary dead
