The league has been prepared to get a team in Vegas for a few years now, but they really just needed another team to be ready to join the association alongside Vegas. Basically, if you add a team in Vegas and Seattle, then send either the Grizzlies or Pels to the eastern conference, both conferences have 16 teams, split into 4 divisions of 4 per conference, and the West will have 1 less dominant team, while the east will have one more dominant team, specifically if you send the Grizzlies to the east, which rebalances the conferences to be more even. Dallas would start over with an expansion team, probably getting a lot of favorable draft balls that seem rigged, and completely open cap space to start a new super team if multiple stars enter FA in that year and want to team up. From a league standpoint, it makes perfect sense. They wouldn't want to put an expansion team in Vegas, as they need to sell in Vegas immediately, but Dallas can hold up for an expansion team to build, or like I said, a few stars may just team up in the vacant cap space. Seattle has wanted the Supersonics back for over a decade, so we know they have the fan base to sell tickets. Who knows, it could be Mexico city instead of Seattle, as that's mega market, and you would have 1 team in Canada and 1 team in Mexico. There really is no explanation for this trade other than bigger things are happening behind the scenes. No GM is that incompetent. Nico Harrison sounded like he's not even considering a long future as the head of the Mavs. Seems like an inside job, and Mark Cuban probably knew this was going to happen too. You know the crazy thing is...LBJ has a huge stake for the future Vegas team, and wants to be a team owner, probably just like Brady is a former HOF player that is running a team.
