I wanted Soto back, I'm sorry he went to Queens, but it shouldn't have been hard to pivot. Let's be honest, the one thing the Yankees didn't need this offseason was another right fielder. We needed a reliever or three. Another starter would be good. But we had holes at 1B, 2B/3B, CF, and LF. Jazz would play one of 2B or 3B and we assume Jasson would go to left. Soto would have plugged in one hole, but we had glaring needs regardless.

I think if the Yankees keep making moves they will be the clear favorite in the AL. No other AL teams are making big moves and some of the better teams are losing players(Orioles, Houston). Blue Jays might start trading away players because they can't get anyone to sign there.

Therefore, Cashman had to walk back the handshake deal with Vlad Sr. thats when Cashman said he had final say on player contracts in 2005 when his contract was up for renewal.
