So sad... I've been sitting in my car before with the door unlocked as I was getting ready to go inside of the store and a male opened my passenger door thinking it was the car he was waiting for. He immediately closed it and said he was so sorry, but I locked my doors and got the heck outta there.

I definitely understand your concerns about car jackings and robberies, but what happened to simple common sense of cracking the car’s window and simply asking questions such as what you want, wrong car or I’m not an Uber driver? I just find it so hard to believe that a UT student who was probably drunk was really that scary and needed to be shot... the kid probably was slurring, had no idea what was happening, and just wanted to get home. A silly mistake should have never costed him his life and I don't care how scared that person was. There are so many other measures you can take before you just shoot someone. We need stricter gun laws. His poor friends that now have to live with the regret of letting him go home alone and his poor family that will never see him again. It's just so very sad and so very tragic. UT is a great school with great students who really aren't any trouble. Just praying his family heals

I was coming out of the store with my friend not even paying attention to her just making a bull’s-eye for a car that I literally thought was hers. I then proceeded to put my hand on the handle waiting for her to push the button to unlock the doors when a man approached me and became enraged . I literally went into a panic for I is a disabled woman could not defend myself from this man. My friend yelled Marie you’re at the wrong car I excused myself apologized and tried to walk around him. He took it upon himself to call me a bunch of names I refused to repeat and threaten to kick my ass. All for a mistake. Let’s take a blue Honda four-door how many do you think are in this world that look alike. I’m mistaken easily be made. People need to step back and put their weapons away And their anger and assess the situation. This young man is dead for a simple mistake. Someone was shot for trying to get in a car. We will never know if the shooting was necessary because we will only hear one side of the story. I was at a gas station pump getting ready to start my car and pull away when some guy opened the passenger door and put a case of beer on the floor and started to sit down. I looked at him and said " you need a ride somewhere?" Poor guy just about fainted....his friend's car looked just like mine. We both laughed and I told him he could leave the beer if he wanted to as he got out of the car. I didn't shoot him ffs.

Very sad and tragic. Condolences to all impacted. Late at night when 2 alike cars are parked close to each other one could get confused. I made this mistake several years ago at a local Mall at 11 am. When my key wouldn't go in the ignition, I leaned my head back and looked to the right, and their was my car which was IDENTICAL to the one I was sitting in. I got out of that car in a flash and jumped in mine and I was so grateful it's owner was still in the Mall. Since that happened I always look inside a car before I touch the door or get in and I always lock all the doors. Sadly, everyone is so afraid of others in the USA. Thanks to the TV violence, the media's social engineering, govt backstabbing and bs, endless propaganda, and nation being fueled by hatred at ALL LEVELS. People react first and think much later. As a society we must revive Morals, Ethics, Integrity, Respect, and Kindness for each other or we are ALL doomed. A nation divided is destine to self-destruct.

I really hope there is more to this story because if this is all it takes to justify shooting someone then we are all in trouble. It has happened to everyone in my family at some point or another and none of us were inebriated. I think once I had the door open and it was the contents of the vehicle that clued me in that it was the wrong car. Our most memorable one, however, happened over 20 years ago with my then 9 year old daughter. We were leaving a restaurant and there was a vehicle identical to ours parked right beside ours. I jokingly said, "Gee, how are we going to know which one is ours?". My daughter quickly replied, "That's easy! Ours doesn't have "bird sh*t" on it". Just as her father was about to, ummm, reprimand her for cursing, I followed her gaze. The dealership sticker was "Burchett Ford". No, we didn't try to get in the car but there are so many identical vehicles out there, mistakes like this happen. They won't all get caught with "bur" "chit". It shouldn't be a death sentence or even a butt whooping.
