New homes built in areas that flood intermittently. Poor drainage planning. Local governments liable for greedily approving inappropriate development. People moving from outside who have no clue about FL, summer rain, drainage, and tropical storms.

I left 7 years ago, and haven't looked back. The change I witnessed sense the late 60’s. People moving to Florida to get away from it all. Then bringing it all with them . What you are seeing is the results. Every thing that made Florida a grate place to live, no longer exists. I lived there when air conditioning was not in every home and shop. We used to joke. Take away the air conditioning. All these ass holes will go away.

Most insurance companies don't sell flood insurance directly. When they write a policy, the policy is indemnified by the US National Flood Insurance Program. All of the premiums sold nationwide through the plan go into a fund that is used to pay claims, so only people that have flood insurance will see their flood insurance rates go up. Most people don't know that the NIFP is broke though, and Congress has to re-authorize the program, and rates for flood insurance will increase greatly over the next couple of years. Your home insurance is not affected by this unless you are also insured by NFIP.

This has been predictable for a very long time...I knew decades ago, as a child when I first visited family in Delray Beach & Miami. Later I visited St. Petersburg and Ft. Meyers...I remember my family talking about future flooding of Florida. I was there in the Hey Day of Cypress Gardens and loved the ski shows. I also lived in New Orleans...and grew up in Houston on the Bayou. The Water is Rising. I ceased flying when Iraq war began...now car free in the San Francico Bay area for almost a decade...so easy/pleasant to travel by E bikes/mass public transit. We have Ferry, BART, Caltrans, Amtrak, great bus service, light rails in Sacramento and the Sonoma Marin Area Rapid Transit (SMART train). Bikes are allowed on all of these forms of mass public transit. I live in Heaven. and grateful for the Great Pacific Ocean air conditioning that blows sweet fresh air through my home. Every single community needs to assess all alternative forms of transportation that spare the air/reduce fossil fuel use. Cycling/walking keeps me in great shape at 75 years of age. Find your local bike coalition, take their free classes...learn to ride a bike. The Water is Rising.

The vast majority of homes affected by flooding are not affected by this. The National Flood Insurance Program supplies the vast majority of flood insurance policies in the US. This is an elevation problem created by the developer. This is criminal, 15-18 Inches should not flood like this.
@shenmisheshou7002
@shenmisheshou7002 Ай бұрын
@@Prowrastletalk Historically, Florida is hit by a hurricane every 3.5 years, but if you look back to 2004, Florida has been hit 10 times (including Debby). Climate scientist tried to warn us that Florida would be the first US state to see a serious financial impact from climate change, and it looks like they were right. Home and flood insurance will continue to go up, and this will depress property values. Cities and counties will have to raise the tax rates to offset the loss in property value, but this will be a net even in that the actual property tax bill may go up little in coming years, but potential buyers will see the tax bill become a much larger percentage of a mortgage. Flood insurance rates will likely go up 18% but this was already happening due to congress threatening to de-fund the National Flood Insurance Program. DeSantis might also have to raise rate on the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association (Socialist program by the way) as well in a year. (Socialism is bad...Until you need it anyway.)

I think that it’s probably safe to assume that if you live in Florida you’re going to have to invest in a house that can withstand these types of natural disasters. The problem is not enough. People are advocating for round homes on stilts. You’re gonna have to raise the house up 16 to 18 feet 🦶 off the ground if you want to live in such a volatile state with weather. 😢

This is really heartbreaking. Do you think the planning of the d*** that was opened since it wasn't open? Prior to the storm, to make the lake lower, knowing this was going to be a big event. Could all of that infrastructure underneath the ground fill up with water, and then just had nowhere to go. But out some holes and created all this, because this has never happened before, and I don't believe that dam has ever been opened, but I don't know, maybe somebody could check into that.

I live in Pittsboro North Carolina, that is central North Carolina. We're waiting for Debby's arrival. 10 inches of rain is possible and the flood warnings are all up and out for our area and down east. That's two months amount in only three days. Good bye drought. Lucky I live in the piedmont which has hilly country and thus there is no low lying flat areas that you find in Florida. Down in the southeastern part of the state, the coastal plain and coastal areas, flooding could be massive. Doesn't seem to be too much wind, hopefully. Don't want power outages. Already here on this Tuesday morning we got our first outer band rain fall. Heavy but only lasted about 1/2 hour. More on the way though. Good luck in Florida for handling the storm's impact.

Our family had a summer camp built back in the 1930's along a river. It was built on high ground above the river. But about 20 years ago new people moved in and built many homes/camps right on the shore of the river. Several big rains from tropical storms cause the river to rise to high levels. One family had to be rescued by helicopter and a double wide built almost in the river was just washed away. I would say that the people who built along that river years ago stayed on high ground, newcomers wanted to live right on the shore.
