Pretty sweet test. Going to have to take a look at a more recent video to see the current setup. The gimbal seems to have reduced the amount of work the Hypersmooth algorithm was doing and allowed for a wider PoV. Pretty impressed with how well Hypersmooth on its own did, though, even if it had to crop the frame more to do it. Almost wish there was a 'no stabilization at all' pass just to see how bad it could have been!

I agree with you. I like Gimbal plus GoPro Hypersmooth. Really surprised by the amount of shaking with the gimbal only (no GoPro stabilization). I've seen other videos with that Gimbal with the same shaking but did see one that was very smooth. Perhaps they were running Hypersmooth too. Gimbal + Hypersmooth low light performance looked fine... I didn't see the shaky/blurryness(?) that I've seen with GoPro stabilization only. Nice comparison and great video!

Thanks! Really happy with the results and that it surpassed expectations in the lower light situations. Excited to get some more footage to further put it to the test.

I'm also surprised how shaky it was with just gimbal (no hypersmooth). My conclusion is that gimbal is more for keeping the horizon than stabilization

Used to have the WG2X that used with a Hero4. But I destroyed the gimbal in a crash at Alpine Valley in Elkhorn, WI back in the spring. These days I just ride with a Hero8. The hypersmooth 2 is stable enough to satisfy me...I hated having the gimbal hanging off my chest.

That’s kind of where I’m at. In terms of stability it’s hard to beat the gimbal, but I’m not sure it makes the extra hassle worth it. The GoPro internal stabilization is pretty impressive and only continues to improve.
@BeginnerToWhistler4 жыл бұрын
@@benmorine Definitely. Plus with the gimbal hanging there I was always paranoid about smacking it into the bars or breaking it in a crash. Obviously that eventually happened, but I'm happy to be without it now.

How about same setting while trail running? I have seen another footage where wg2x is chest mounted and footage looks awful, side to side and up and down shaky.
@benmorine4 жыл бұрын
I think if you could prevent the chest harness from going up and down it would look good. The stuntman chest harness does a really good job of this. However, I don’t think I’d personally want to wear it while trail running, due to the bulkiness of the setup, and the heat it would create.

I know I'm years late on this but I just picked up this gimbal off eBay for my GoPro hero8 black. Excited to try it out, and I am also really impressed with the mic quality. I will also find out if the media mod will work with the WG2X. Did your G2X come with the adapter to hold the GoPro? As in the spring-loaded holder?

Hey just curious if the media mod ended up working with the wg2x? Thanks

Do u think the gimbal with chest mount and Dji osmo Action`s "rock steady" would be smooth for walking videoes?
@benmorine4 жыл бұрын
I’m not 100% sure it’s compatible with the Osmo, but if it is, I’m sure it would be good. I’m really happy with it so far.

how easy is it to handle on the trail and is it loosing the point of view much?

plus how long the battery lasts
@benmorine4 жыл бұрын
@@advtyun3917 The battery is rated for 2.5 hours and it's fairly easy to use. Lately I've been going back to just the GoPro just because of how easy and hassle free it is. If your goal is to have the smoothest footage around, then the gimbal is definitely worth it.
