Maybe it's just me, and don't get me wrong I've been using the MP scanners and platform for several years now but the madness must stop. People trying to make it be something it isn't has really not helped the industry. Those that don't know enough have, on several occasions, over promise and severely underdelivered. It's caused a ton of headaches within the AEC industry from both pricing and a deliverables point of view. It also doesn't help that MatterPort is also semi-endorsing the level of accuracy and as all 3 speakers have said, there is no internal way to validate the data. When things are a black box and end users can't at least see how the different sets up were tied together/aligned leaves a huge gaping hole for things to go wrong. It's almost like MP service only providers should have to be certified before they're allowed to offer anything related to accuracy, verification, or geometry to clients. Or at the very least MP has to have levels of service providers capabilities.

@@DanSmigrod 100%..... the biggest thing that they all said is that you cannot verify how the data was aligned and that is a HUGE no no in the long run.. big picture aspect. As RJ mentioned, we too, will just throw in a MP tour as part of the whole packaged deliverable but will not generate any drawings or Revit models from it. Also MP is starting to charge more $$$ to process more set ups which is what's needed to gain higher levels of accuracy. So the thing they're promoting as the camera as being capable of doing is actually hindering it's users from doing it. Again it's not really possible but if it were. If I'm doing a small apartment/home I'd pick the "Room Plan" mode using my iPhone over MP if the aim is to gat a quick floor plan with measurements included.

@@DanSmigrod MatterPort doesn't provide that type of capablity. All three guest speakers gave examples of software that is used to verify scan alignment. In other words it's not just aligned or not it's also about how tighly each set-up matches to the ones around it and globally.

Matterport claims the lod of their bim files is 200

LOD is not LOA. Completely different things. LOD200 can be actually built from even just photos and completely, out to lunch measurements. LOD is more about the what you could call Meta Data in behind. LOD 200 is a schematic representation. It has absolutely no barring on accuracy of measurement. Anybody can even assemble an LOD200 model, just taking design PDF plans and modeling... You don't even need Matterport or a measurement to create a low level LOD model, because there is no relevance to accuracy. So Matterport isn't lying. But they aren't being forthright either. And those without the background in the industry, don't understand all the little hidden phrases and nuances... Matterport actually has some good written articles about accuracy and such. But you need read in-between the lines of what they are saying. And even in their article Accuracy article, if you read it and all the links.... They have essentially created a get out of Jail Free card for themselves, saying they can't guarantee or give you any level of accuracy...
