As a kid i still remember the old CTA electric buses and the blue sparks they made crossing over electric street lines! They were very quite!

The museum has one of the best regional collections of electric railway equipment. Incidentally, the Chicago, South Shore and South Bend Railroad extends east to South Bend, ending at Michiana Regional Airport.

They used to go all the way into downtown South Bend. I remember that.

It's so wonderful that they totally redone the old South Shore Line MU Cars...it looks like nothing in the Motorman's Cab was altered, (except they are now equipped with Trolley Poles instead of Pantographs at each end) so I can still operate one! I love the rich Cranberry Color. Even kept the same HORN on them too. Imagine, one of those MUs is a Dining Car...who would have thought that back when they were a daily staple for us riders! :)

As you get old, watching things change isn't easy, at least for me, the 1960's was my youth, simpler times I guess.

DUDE! And Dudettes. Is it me?!? The whipped cream in these Old School Ice Cream Parlors just Cannot be matched by ANYTHING on store shelves!!😍😋And I'll watch ANY report narrated by Mike Lowe. As someone who missed his calling into the Radio Industry, he has probably the Most soothing voice I've Ever heard!!😔

Western Railway Museum in Rio Vista, CALIFORNIA is the last REAL PIECE of the "Sacramento Northern Interurban". Much like the above in Wisconsin. I love this kind of thing. Thank you for this.

No mention of wi-fi. On the train? Parlor? Charging ports? No casino stop, either? Is bitcoin accepted for fare?

Thanks, WGN. I’ll have to check it out.

this place needs to get its head out of the 1940s and join the rest of us in the modern day. this is pathetic and embarrassing for america's image on a global scale.

What kind of a knot-headed comment did you just make, seawitch? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with keeping memories & relics from yesteryear & showcasing them for younger generations to learn about our history. Remember, those who forget their history are condemned to repeat it. That can be a good thing & a bad one. We ( humanity ) deemed electric street cars as old fashioned & ripped them out in favor of the automobile. Funny, electric street cars & light rail are making a comeback in cities all over America such as Dallas’ DART system. It’s a huge success & it’s expanding. What’s old is new again. This town & museum are far from embarrassing America’s image on a global scale. That’s being taken care of in spectacular fashion by the current administration in Washington, DC!

@@chooch1995 by "humanity" you mean america I assume? because europe certainly adores their socialist, anti-freedom electric railways. People who use public transportation are sheep willingly turning down something better. something that lets them travel in comfort and safety from being assaulted, harassed, r*ped, catching disease, and crammed like sardines inside, and its called an "automobile"

You are completely missing the point. Some things deserve to be preserved. They are part of our history. People choose what they want to invest time in and clearly these lovely people think it's important to keep it going. I think it's awesome.
