PSA! Doing it right now and just be ready for heavy amount of writing. it's 90% writing and if you're not a strong writer like me, you'll want to give up. Some classes have up to 4 performance assessment (writing) task. BTW I went in with all my core classes done except for pharm.

Hi Shane, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve had my college transcripts/certs evaluated and my AAPC coding certifications (I have 3: CPC, CPMA, & CRC) met satisfaction for two of the core classes (D254: introduction to medical coding and C808: classification systems). I hope this helps. Thank you for posting this video! You have been a huge help!

When u say "pre-test" out, do you mean once you've completed the 3rd party equivalent course, we get credit for that course, or do we literyhabe to take an exam at WGU, to test out of it?

Could you do a research/online review of UMGC- University of Maryland Global Campus? It’s a school that primarily focuses on “adult students” and majority of their classes are available online! Im strongly considering this school and trying to hack a BA in marketing and media/communications, either as a double major or minor and major since they don’t combine the two as one subject. I’d love to know what your thoughts are on it!

When you say test out, why do u need to test out of a class @ WGU, if you've completed the course already? Im not understanding that. Once you complete the class, shouldn't you be able to just transfer in the course and pick up where u left off, and just do the classes for the major? Do u literally have to take a test to get credit for the class you want to transfer in, if its completed already? 😂

Everyone caught up and asking questions. These degree's will qualify you for high up positions, but you must realize those positions are also coupled with years of work experience, or an internal training program. None of WGU's degrees will allow any of you to step up to the highest chain of command in corporate, or in any other company if you don't have work experience. We've seen 18-19 year olds get their Masters in 10 months using WGU. Yeah, you explain to the entire department why we hired some teenager to run our company.. It WOULD NOT MAKE SENSE, and we'd go bankrupt just for hiring them. YOU can shortcut the education, YOU can not shortcut the experience. With IT, companies are going to look for someone with SQL or at minimum help desk experience, To really become a manager in IT after the masters it's going to take you 5-10 years at the same company. To become an RHIA with this HIMS degree, you're going to need connections. There's only one RHIA in a department, and they are also going to see that you're overqualified and might be gunning for their job if they do hire you as an RHIT or coder. They will not hire you. Don't go into this degree thinking you'll instantly be qualified for an administrative positon, director position or anything else that's high up. You will need to start at the bottom, like everyone else and work your way up. The only degrees which this doesn't count for are the CS, Cloud, Cyber or IT (non manager). Those degrees are slower, and if you really take the 2 years to learn the material they'll do you very well in life. Also, the Healthcare and social worker management degree, once you do the bachelors you can become a Board certified patient advocate, with that they start at around $33-$40hr and are definitely worth the degree, because that job someone can walk in off the street into. If you aren't trying to work for the Federal government, Become a military officer, Step up higher in a company you're already working with, I wouldn't recommend doing a quick 6 month degree because you won't qualify for any actual position without years of work experience. Amazon does hire Managers with bachelors in Business management, but you'll be at amazon.... Making 60k a year lol.

I would say this degree is best when paired with a specialty. For example i was a experienced pharmacy technician with 8 years of experience who wanted to move into the technology side of pharmacy and i got the bshim degree and RHIA and am now a pharmacy data analyst. I think this degree should be used by healthcare professionals who have experience already in their field but want to move into the tech side of healthcare.

@@SC-mo1hk Well picture the Idea behind it. These Degree's are usually meant for people who already have went through a medical and coding vocational school. So you've been a medical coder for 5-10 years and know the Ins and outs of the company. Well now you need the degree to step up higher as an RHIT or an RHIA. So you use WGU and pass the RHIT in 6-7 months, couple that with your experience, you're highly qualified for a director position. Next. You have Zero experience, use WGU and get a HIMS degree in 6 months at 18. You haven't held a job at Mcdonalds, much less would a company take you serious and hire you as a director over an entire department.. That's what this degree qualifies you for, is to be a director. Nobody is going to pick you up at all. These degree's are made to be for the already working professional within the field. Same with IT, Okay you get a masters at WGU in 10 months total time starting from 0 time and you're 19. NOBODY is going to hire you to run an entire IT company masters or not. You have to work your way up, start at help desk and keep going up the ladder. The degree will be worth it once you get to that point in life, but you can't shortcut life even if you can shortcut the degree. Say you go for Accountant, and you really want to take the CPA? usually you need at least 4000 hours of work experience to qualify to become a certified accountant just to take the test. These degrees are shortcuts, they can help you get into the military as an officer or into a federal government law enforcement position, but they wont help you jump up the corporate ladder. No degree will.

HIM is not a good field to get into. HIT 2 year degree will focus on medical coding not coding and billing like what medical assistant do . It’s very hard to get into coding field. HIM is like Health Service Administration but to manage Medical records. HIM is slow on evolving to what healthcare needs like IT side and Data Analytics. Please stick to skill based careers like RN, IT, and etc….I have two degrees in HIt and HIM. The coding jobs they shipped overseas to India too…. Thanks to Obama Administration. Create the jobs in the United States and hired out of the country workers.
