It sounds like Angel Studios is making better pureflix films and it's much appreciated. Also, Neal McDonough is definitely an ideal choice to play these types of villains lol. Lastly, they got a very interesting cast here with Sean Austin and even well-known voice actors like Jason Marsden and Nolan North 🤔.

I was blessed to be able to work in the background on this movie. I have seen it twice now and I will be glad to give an honest opinion. The first time I saw it left me somewhat confused. Not because of the story line but because the whole movie was something different that what would have come out of Hollywood. There wasn't a single word that you wouldn't want a kid to hear. There were no scenes with gratuitous violence or sex. It was a pleasure to watch without having to feel like it was a guilty pleasure if that makes sense. The second time I watch it was even better. I had already seen myself on the big screen so that anxiety was gone and I could just enjoy the movie. It was really really good in my opinion. I think it helps to be familiar with the story of Job so that you can recognize the references in the movie. For those that aren't familiar I think there is a strong enough tie-in that it may make a viewer curious enough to read it. Everyone that I met and worked with, from Kris and Neal down to the runners, were wonderful. I think the whole thing was shot in 25 days. That is a heck of a lot of hustle. It is the kind of hustle that takes faith and dedication to accomplish. 100% recommend seeing this film, maybe even twice!

When you said that, "There wasnt a single word that you wouldn't want a lid to hear," made me think about the elicit language in Hollywood movies, how blasphemy of the name of Jesus Christ is used and how people drop the "G-da*it" word a lot. All of which I'm certain these movies don't have, correct?

This was a faith promoting, non-obscene movie, and I loved it! I can't believe they shot it in 25 days, I couldn't tell. Fair warning though. This is no Hallmark sweet Gumdrop Christian movie. It gets real gritty in its depiction of evil, suffering, and doubt. This movie brings the Book of Job's truths to a 21st century audience.

I am a Christian, I love Jesus but even I had my rebel phase and it was down to things like the utter poor boring tedious quality of the Christian entertainment. It was completely off putting to people my age but if you said anything against it you were shot down - usually by some preachy speech. That and the always happy clappy singing - I’m glad this movie exists because flip it, I’m NOT always happy, the world can be a dark awful place and sometimes I want to be miserable with God - the Bible has Job, had Lamintations, has Psalms screaming at God - Why?! People look at what they precise Christians to be and simply can’t relate and like me find that outlet in heavy metal music. We NEED stuff like this, remind the world that the first written book in the bible was a poem about a man who had lost everything sat in the dirt, head in hand’s saying - soon I will be in the land of the dead, at the end of my life everything I have ever done or said has amounted to nothing and my only value is my body will be food for the worms… where are you God?

CS Lewis and John Bunyan used entertainment as a way to spread the gospel. You mean you have not heard of Narnia or Pilgrim’s Progress? God asked Moses to look what he had in his hands, Moses said he had a stick. God used that stick to do miracles. The book of Job demonstrates how evil God is and shows what Christianity is truly about..... Blind obedience to an evil character (fictional) that is jealous and demands that you both love and fear it or be tortured for eternity. Poor Job was tourtured and his family killed just to prove something to Satan (God doesn't know everything)? There is no moral teaching in this EVIL book.

Bipslone, God loved us first, and more than we could ever love Him, we could never die to save Him. Is it wrong for a husband to be jealous of his wife to think she should only be with him in intimate ways and not any other man? One spouse should fear the other for if they cheat on them. God did nothing to Job only took away the protection none of us deserve in the first place, and even after Satan hurt Job, God restored twice as much to him. How can you even say anything is evil though, without an objective moral arbiter such as God, everything is subjective. At best, you can only say, "I personally don't like that" There is no objective right or wrong, yet you innately know there is such a thing as right and wrong, that is the moral compass given to you by God but it is skewed right now.

My 23 yo daughter and I just saw this tonight. We both thought it was fantastic. I think she and I have in common that we are both pretty good at suspending disbelief to get into movies. So going in, not knowing much, but that it was supposedly based on Job or maybe just "loosely based" on the book of Job we were able to just roll with all the differences and appreciate a really great good vs evil storyline with a lot of interesting takes and surprises. I loved their use of lines of scripture, very evocative, very effective!

It held my attention all the way through, the acting was all good - although of course Neil McDonough was outstanding as expected! Wouldn't have been the same without him. The ending was...somewhat rushed, and unsatisfactory in some ways, although it made for a good discussion on Job and how the story really broke parallel there. I'd give it a 7.5 or 8 out of 10. Can't say I've seen a better explicitly "Christian" movie, and I appreciate that unlike nearly all the others, it didn't focus obviously on driving home/preaching a particular message, and avoided worn-out cliches and themes, this was something fresh! Well done, and worth the watch.

Yo the movie was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Found myself wanting to see what would happen next and was genuinely wondering how it was going to end. The story is more loosely based on the story of job but I think it was better that way. You got to experience the pain and are faced with tough choices, making the choice of honoring God even harder than I realized. Acting was really good, I felt sucked in and wanting to know the characters more. It's not as big brain as ophenimer but it tackles a question that we really don't hear in movies which is the problem of evil and if God is there. (Still a smart movie, but it's not complicated to follow.) I want to see this director make another movie with more time and more resources.

Yesssss, I agree with the comment about Job. I was trying to figure out how his story fit what was happening and so it does seem like a stretch to say it’s a modern retelling. If they didn’t say that about it, I don’t think the average person would have put the two together. Having said that though I still liked the movie. They did more than most films do with a smaller budget. A lot of smaller budget films seem poorly put together, but this one showed everyone came and did their best despite the budget constraints. As one of the Angel investors it’s exciting knowing my very small contribution helped get it made and now playing on the big screen.

When he was young a was young as a teenager he started to get into attending church with some friends. And then one day he opened up the Bible a random effort he came to the book of Job and then he turned away. I'm sure there were other things in his mind but he says that the whole idea of God testing somebody like that turned them off to the thought that God was good. I tried to explain to him the meaning of the story but I need to make a thoughtful effort at how I say anything & when

People don't understand Job. God takes the shallow faith of a man who has a simplistic notion of God and makes that faith unconquerable; or in other words, God gives a man who thinks he has everything but actually has very little the most precious gift that can be given - the knowledge of God. It's literally the opposite of what most people seem to take away...even those who value the knowledge of God. It's also happens to be the clearest early scriptural example of how the divine council functions and how God uses the weak and broken children He adores to humiliate the arrogant and rebellious powers that be.

🤨 Something about this movie feels eerily familiar. I remember reading a novel almost 40 years ago by Robert A. Heinlein titled Job: A Comedy of Justice. It makes a mockery of Christianity. In it, a man travels through alternate realities, meets Satan, gets separated from the woman he loves, and decides heaven is worthless without her. There's even an appearance by Mary Magdalene. If this movie isn't connected to or some kind of copy of that novel, what is it?

@skymps Not so far as I know. But I haven't seen the movie yet. I remember having a conversation about the book years later with a coworker. I told him I was shocked at the sacrilegious stuff in the book, like the idea that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers. He said that wasn't shocking; it was a well-known idea. I later found out it is a well-known idea in Mormonism, and, yeah, he was a Mormon. It's just curious to me as I think back on all this that this movie is produced by Mormons. Now, I'm sure they've probably made a good movie that's respectful of Christianity and all, but it does make me wonder...

Okay, first, I did love your review... 👍 Nice... So, I'm an older guy and our church group went to see it first weekend after service. I agree with much you had to say about it. For me, sometimes to much to take in at once... (roller coaster ride)... But , this isn't the only movie that's that way... So, i missed some of the awesome nuance on the first pass... I fight back by watching it again and picking up about 1/3rd more things in some parts that were flying by... (older brain thing)... But overall, a Very awesome move that is a much different kind of offering from Angel studios... Like you, I would very much recommend it to many out here..!! 🤩

Love how you put this video together! Cute idea. This is the first I have heard of the movie (which is another reason why I watch your channel). So I’ll likely go check it out.

I loved this movie! It was well-produced and entertaining on its own, just as a drama/sci-fi/romance with contemplations of our human struggles with how to live a good life and to reject evil. But then there's the whole Biblical sub-text to contemplate. I look forward to seeing it again and sharing it with my family once it's available.

I definitely agree with you on the book of job comment. It didn't feel like the main core and more like an afterthought. I found it to be slow and fast at the same time though. It was filled with details, but some of those details may have probably been omitted to provide a better spacing and possibly leave room for imagination.

Love the book of Job.
@Tabetha394
@Tabetha394 10 ай бұрын
The reason it felt loosely inspired by Job is because it was. It wasn't meant to be a direct correlation to Job. The writer/director was addressing suffering using Job. This is because Job helped him get through some tragedies he faced in his own life. Though, I agree that you shouldn't have to know that information in advance. I can see why most would have made a similar correlation as you.

If it’s almost as good or even better than ‘The Sound of Freedom’ count me in. I finally got to watch it and it was even better than I anticipated so seems like Angel Studios is doing some good work.

I saw the trailer before knowing it was a Christian movie, and I thought it seemed like a sacrilegious movie. The whole concept of shifting between a multiverse is putting the character in a godlike position. It is placing oneself as their own god. It is good to hear your thoughts.

Yeah but he doesn’t shift into another dimension the benefactor does to show his power but at the end God is victorious

@@vanessagowora Did you watch the film? Does the benefactor take him into the other dimensions?
@vanessagowora
@vanessagowora 10 ай бұрын
@@hyzenthlay713 no I didn’t watch the movie but I heard about what through other Christians it’s the benefactor that takes him to other dimensions. No true Christian believes in the multiverse because the definition of multiverse is there are multiple versions of you. This one can be seen as an allegory that makes it seem that the benefactor is powerful when he really isn’t.

Utter respect for Neal McDonough, especially given the choke hold that Hollywood has on its actors. McDonough is an exceptional actor and I have loved all he has been in.

The only bad thing I have to say when it comes to production is sound quality more specifically the sound quality of the actors there was very little "depth" if that makes sense; everything seemed to be spoken directly into a microphone, kinda like a lot of dubbed shows... Other than that I liked the modern/sci-fi interpretation...
