Well done to the NSRI. At position 1:23 of the video you get a glimpse of Simonstown in the background suggesting that the whale got entangled somewhere off the Quarry relatively close inshore. My question is, with what was the whale entangled? There has been one or more incidents over the last couple of years of whales becoming entangled in the rope/line that is laid by the boats catching Octopus in False Bay. These boats lay long lines hundreds of meters long with traps attached to catch Octopus all along the inside shoreline along the False Bay coastline, this inside shoreline also represents the migratory path of the whales. Two things, if it is the Octopus lines then it goes to prove that they are going to be a problem with whales all along our coast where they are laid. If not then the line is an obstruction to boats and whales alike and should be removed. I hope the NSRI removed the line, its whale season.
