Congratulations 🎉 for the Lintons. They are great looking and sound wise. I wanted the Evo 4.2 but without the budget I got Diamond 12.2 and I am very pleased. It was also the matter of my stands that could not support those big boys.

I got my pair of these in mahoganey finish 5 months ago and have enjoyed them immensely. I have them hooked up to my Willsenton R8 valve amp with 45wpc RMS. They sound much smoother and refined connected to the 4-ohm binding posts versus the 8-ohm.

Thanks for the Linton Review!!! Very informative/educational..... I have a pair of Denton 85's that I bought recently, and was not completely satisfied with the imaging with this specific pair. I had wondered if the placement had something to do with it - and yes indeed, as you documented in your video, the "W" is supposed to be on the outside speaker grille, and mine were placed backward. I switched the position of the speakers, and they sound remarkably better. I checked all Wharfedale documentation, and could not see where they tell us that there is a left and right speaker....going to liquidate some of my current Polk speakers to purchase the Linton's, decided to do this after watching your review. Thanks again!!!

Great speakers and awesome walk around ! Subscribed👍🏻👊🏻 Side note I’ve got a pair on the way should be here soon I’ll be pairing with a Arcam sa30 . Currently I’m running some Kef R3 metas with S3 stands and sound really good but for me can be a little fatiguing so I want to try a little warmer speaker and why I’m going to give the lintons a try . Also I’ve got a set of those plastic pry bars I got on Amazon for my car I think would be user friendly to take the grills off and there cheap 👍🏻

I have the B&W 607 Anniversary Editions and they are extremely bright up top. But simply using an EQ or just tone controls takes care of them nicely and now they're my favorite bookshelf speakers. But when I compare them to my Klipsch RP-6000F floor standing speakers it's night and day. Definitely need a sub with the B&WS to keep from wearing out the bottom end and balance them out. I use both AB receiver and class D amp and they sound great either way, though slight edge to my Dennon AV2400 receiver over both Aiyima A07 pro and A07 max. Great comparison on the Lintons. They have an incredibly rich sound. It's like a nice warm dish on a cold night. Lovely texture to their sound. I need to sell some gear to get myself a pair now. Great job. Tim in Texas

I had a similar experience with amplifiers with my Lintons. I went from a Yamaha RXA2040 AV amp with 140 watts per channel to a Leak 230 stereo amp with 75 watts per channel and the Leak sounded twice as powerful! Bass improved significantly and it sounded much fuller.

Positioning Stereo Loudspeakers The Linton Heritage speakers feature offset treble units to smooth the high frequency dispersion. The speakers should be positioned with treble units inwards, that is with the W badge on the grilles towards the outside. Additionally the drive unit dispersion is aided by the front grilles which should be left on for optimum listening performance. Removing the grilles will produce a brighter but less smooth sound. If the loudspeakers are placed too close to the walls the bass will increase but may be boomy and indistinct. If the loudspeakers are placed further away from the walls, the inward angle ("toe in") may be increased by up to 30%. As personal taste plays a large role, experiment with different configurations and play a wide range of programme material before finalising the position of your speakers. The optimum listening position is in the area broadly known as the "sweet spot" . The more extreme the angle, the narrower is the sweet spot. Wharfedale loudspeakers are designed to cover a wide sonic perspective so there should be no need for extreme settings.

I watched your video before you purchased your Linton. What is the total cost of Linton with stands. What is the cost difference between Linton with stands and 606. If you used the difference and purchased a REl subwoofer for your B606, you may spend less overall, but have more bass without losing details (elevated highs).

Oh my! They are the perfect pair of speakers! I wanna do a pair my self like the ones SoundBlab did recently, but man... that will take me half a year.... Those B&W sounds like razor blades! Trash! But you can always mod the crossovers in'em! ;) And yes, the Lintons are 900 pounds better, because the 606s will keep setting you back, buying other pickups for the turntable, modding the speakers, buying a better amp and so on until you get deaf because it was the speaker all that time. ;) ...or get APO EQ on your PC and use them for that. Bloody love those Linton's! Congratulations

I own a set of wharfdale 230s like the ones in your vids. Now I know at 3 or 4 times the cost the Lintons wont be 3 times the speaker. My question is the extra wonga worth it over the 230s. Is there a sizable improvement in sound to warrant getting the Lintons. Whats the sound like between the two. Now my guess both being made by wharfdale there may have some similar traits like being warm and have a romantic sound with decent sub bass and smooth treble etc etc. My silly mind is thinking one being a floorstander and pushes well above its class and one being a big bookshelf speaker there shouldn't be such a huge jump and how could a bookshelf be as room filling as s floorstander etc etc. I would like your thought's much appreciated with your channel your the nuts love your content.

The speakers look fantastic, they are modern but still retro. I've got Dali Oberon 5s and SVS prime bookshelves and I love them. How would you compare Lintons to Oberon 5s? Oberons are very clear and detailed and classical music sounds amazing but they are not that good for metal. I'm guessing that's because of small woofers which can't handle too much noise fast drums and guitars. SVS do handle lower frequencies much better. Do Lintons have wider and deeper soundstage? Do they sound detailed playing loud? Please advise. I would appreciate it.

Love the lintons they look great. I think the rotel sounds better for 2 reasons. 1. There will be less componts in it, only 2 channels, no dolby, no sound processing etc.... so less interference going on in the pre and power stages 2. if you have two boxes that say cost 1k, the receiver will split that money between, the pre amp (and that will be a castly complicated preamp) 5/7 or more power amplifiers, signal processing/dolby etc... where as a stereo amp pretty much has a transformer, pre amp and left and right power stages. so the money spent on components for those two chanel stereo is way more than was spent on the two channel components in a multi channel set up if you see what I mean.

I can't shake feeling I have already seen this room on ASR. Positioning is bad and too low judging by you siting on the chair but perhaps you lay back more when listening (most people do). B&W first sounded compressed and holow but shaked that later being only a bit bright perhaps. Linton's got a hole in uper bass. You can't do accoustic treatment but sure you can proper DSP correction either with PEQ filters or convolver filter and if you are lazy then wity room correction like Dirac. It will be a challenge either way with large glass window on one side and open space on another. Try with thick curtains made of wool or cotton over the windows and as precise chanel SPL matching afterwards, good luck.

Wonderful speakers! A speaker with relaxed top end is just so much easier to live with. Any speakers that land here sooner or later I end up soldering resistors to the tweeters. Usually to great effect bringing out midrange and warmth. Often midrange is drowned in u-shaped treble and in-room bass boost. As well as creating a, to my ears natural top end as real life doesn't have boosted treble either. Does it? Unless you have significant hearing damage of course. Then get the brightest speaker you can and I think this is also why so much "high end" audio is unbearably bright. By the time you can afford it you are deaf.

Nice move! Congrats! The Linton's are a beautiful set of speakers. They sound the best when you have an amp that can deliver plenty of power reserve - capacitance. Funnily enough, hardly any supposedly professional reviewers on KZbin mention that information when reviewing amplifiers. If they did, they would be able to explain why the Audiolab 6000a sounds so good at such a price - it has a capacitance of 60000 micro Farads, which no entry level amps can match. For example, the very competent Yamaha AS500 you reviewed only has 24000 micro Farad capacitance although it has a very competent power supply and can easily handle 4ohm loads all day long. If you really want to get the best out of your Linton's you can plan for a future amp that can deliver constant juice at 4ohms without overheating and which has at least 60000 micro Farad capacitance. If you have an amp there that can be used as a pre-amp, then you can even shop for a power amp and cover all bases. You should hear your Linton's through an Emotiva XPA-2 Gen3 power amp! That's an end game combination! It's roughly 1000 quid but performs as well as amps that are many times it's price. You won't need any other amp for the rest of your life. Just a suggestion to think about. Cheers.

Is this why Im having unsatisfying midbass from my linton? Bass sounds and weak and ill-defined.I am using an anthem mrx500 receiver with my lintons.
@jelk1188
@jelk1188 5 ай бұрын
@@jm-vq4cm It's possible. From my experience, almost all Wharfedale speakers tend to dip well below 4 ohms when dealing with certain bass frequencies. Your amp has to be able to deal with those momentary power draws, as well as be able to deliver the power consistently. If your receiver can do that, then It's possible to correct the lack of bass sound by positioning the speakers closer to your side walls and the wall behind them. Otherwise, you'll need a stronger amp.
@jm-vq4cm

@@jelk1188 sorry to ask but maybe you can educate me. I understand it's a question of current. But how is a 50w amp into 4 ohms good enough for Lintons while my 120w into 8 ohms cannot? Is current not a direct factor of power? I mean while listening at reasonable volume without going into overheat. To me the 120w should therefore sound as good or better than the 50w. I just don't understand that.

@@jm-vq4cm It's also about the power supply, but essentially you should be looking at an amp that can handle 4 ohms and lists it on the spec sheet too - i.e. 90w@8ohms/150w@4ohms, etc. You'll find amps that are designed to handle 4 ohms will do so at moderate volume levels without heating up a lot. If you're strapped for cash, you can find an old Yamaha A S-700 for very little and it will easily do the job. An Audio lab 6000a is probably the cheapest thing you can get new that has enough capacitance to make your sound richer and fuller as well. Ideally, you could get something like the Yamaha A - S1100 - that has 72000 micro farads capacitance and is built to last two lifetimes, lol. Its power supply is over 620Va - a monster. Feel free to ask me anything, anytime.

@@jm-vq4cm It's a matter of design and how much strain is exerted on your amp's power supply in tandem with the ability to deliver power at a certain ohm range. If an amplifier is not designed to work at 4 ohms it really struggles when your speakers ask for power in that range. Irrespective of its 8ohm power abilities it will overheat and clip. I'm no electronics engineer, but I have a friend who is and he used this analogy - 8ohms is running, 4 ohms is swimming. It doesn't matter how good you are at running if you can't swim. You'll drown - (amp switches off, speakers get destroyed) A manufacturer will disclose if an amp is designed to handle 4 ohm loads, and most will list the power an amp can produce at certain ohms, i.e. - 90@8ohms/120@6ohms/150@4ohms. Ideally, you would get an amp that can work easily in the 4 ohm range while being able to deliver power quickly - a high current amp (Flippers while swimming, lol). Cheapest solution would be to get an Audiolab 6000a, although I don't like it's power supply - 200va. But it does have excellent capacitance - this always expresses itself as a fuller and richer sound across all frequencies, if the unit has a flat freq. response curve. If you don't listen to music loudly (over 85 db at 9 feet), you should be okay with an amp like that. I solved this problem in my own system by getting an ex-demo Yamaha A-S1100. Its power supply is over 620va, and it has a capacitance of 72000 micro farads, plus it's built to last two lifetimes. For me it's an end game purchase. Still have my A-S500 amp which I use for night listening (65db)

I'm 2 channel all the way when it comes to just listening to my music. I do have a home theater system as well in my living room. But when it comes to music, 2 channel & nothing more! I have a Sony STR DH 190 & it does the job for me. It has a phono input. Great show btw buddy. 🤘🏻

Don’t use metal spoons or knives taking the grill off from the speaker because it is hard and could ruin the edges. Use PLASTIC Door Clip Panel Trim Removal Tool Kit. The ones that they use in Halfords for dash camera wire installation. It’s a handy little kit perfect for the job.

Very nice speakers! If you want to remove the grilles more easily, I’d use nylon trim removal tools (or similar ones from phone tool kits). Also, regarding the tweeters, sometimes, depending on your room and your preference, you can try switching the left and right speakers.

@utilitarian I would give it a go on the 8 ohm setting. The lower ohm setting on receivers simply cuts the current allowed to go through the transformer. This kills power and headroom. Always keep the AVR in the 8 ohm setting. It will not hurt the AVR. Audioholics have a few articles and videos on this topic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2O0faqro7N-gpI

AV receivers never sound good in two channel stereo. I know that’s gonna upset a lot of people an amp and a chip just doesn’t produce a nice signal for two channels stereo and to be honest, their power ratings, always peak power output, a very rarely in RMS, so the power you think you’re getting for your speakers is not what you’re getting dedicated two channel stereo ample always sound better

6 ohms use more power form you amp or AVR. If you're AVR has a bit more power you should be okay. If you're going to get the grills off use a credit card ie loyalty card and gently lever it from the top. Otherwise you can damage the veneer. But they are a very nice sounding speaker.
