When I was younger playing on winter greens the group of us that played had a 'Winter Green Rule'. Essentially if you landed on the cut winter green you had a choice of a) take a score with 2 putts OR ) putt out. Unless really close we tended to opt for the former!

Great video. You have a lot of self-doubt which I think is hurting you. For example, on hole 4, why are you "begging for a 2-putt?" Instead, your thought should be, "Let's sink this for birdie." That self doubt and negative mindset has real-world implications. Instead of being disappointed you didn't make birdie, you are relieved you made par. Change that mindset, and you'll see better scores. Believe me!

Great round, a few observations which might help you: 1. Anytime you talk on the tee about "having to get it there" or "worrying about landing short" you always pull it. - I would humbly suggest using more club, or simply accepting you're going to be short. 2. When you're short-sided on your chips, you seem like you land short or duff. - Perhaps take less loft in these situations and try and bump and run, I think the less it's in the air, the more confidence you'll have. 3. You use your driver a lot, even when you identify the trouble. I think if you had used it four or five times less, your score would have been better. 4. You seem nervous over those 3-4 footers, which I think is effecting your poise on the longer shots, because you're scared of going 3 or 4 foot past. When you do get to the practice green, get confident on that distance. 4. You have an excellent attitude, you seem to really enjoy the game and put the bad shots behind you. Keep that up! Thanks for the video, hope the advice isn't too annoying, can't wait till the next one.

Not sure if you watch Liam on Golf mates but he did a video recently where he clubbed to the back of the green. The results were eye opening. We as amateur golfers all ways over estimate how far we will hit the ball, we judge distance by our best shots. When i get out next i'm defo going to try this method . I also went to see Marcus a couple of years ago and pretty much saw the same gains as you. Unfortunately due to a work back and hand issue haven't played much over the last year or so. Looking forward to getting back out this year.

It's been awesome following your progress seeing as you and I started golf round about the same time almost two years back. When it comes to putting, one of the best sayings I ever came across by Dr Bob Rotella that transformed my putting is "Don't putt to two putt. ALWAYS putt to make it". That helped get my handicap down, now at 11, and has seen me often one-putting and often having 30 or less putts in a round. When all else is failing, I know, once I get on the green, that ball is dropping! So, I share the same with you and I hope it shaves more strokes off your rounds! "Always putt to make it".

You should feel blessed to be able to play in the winter. Where I live, in a city with about 240,000 people, only one course stayed open into December and now there are zero outdoor options. Anyway, you'll have to trust me but your game and my game are similar in many ways, we hit about the same distances and our hcp is roughly the same. I just want to share one thing that differs and maybe you can give it a try. When I come to a hole that it at the very limit of a given clubs distance, as you did on the par 3 at 22:57, I always go with the stronger club so that I don't have to hit it perfect and I don't have to hit it with 100% effort. It is much easier for me to hit a nice, relaxed 3/4 9 iron than it is to hit a perfect 8 iron with 100% effort. And the worst thing that can happen is you can be on the back of the green, or perhaps even chipping on from there, instead of in front. Anyway, I've been doing that for years and it's always helped me :)
@UpDownGolf8 ай бұрын
Thanks Canuck, appreciate the advice 👍
@migs81716 ай бұрын
You should try a mallet head putter. Leaving that birdie putt short on 5 was criminal. You're also a bit drivey with the handle and have too much shaft lean on chip shots, you need to release more, if you want to keep it low just try taking less loft, 50 deg, PW or 9 even, you don't always need to pull the SW in every situation.

On my course, if we have a temporary green there is usually a slightly oversized hole with bevelled edges. If we were to play on a temporary green with a normal-sized hole, 6 footers are gimmes.

@johnanthony60928 ай бұрын
@@UpDownGolf They're about the size of a tea plate. When you're putting across a fairway in the winter, the ball is making more moves than a hyperactive break-dancer. Putting into a standard-sized hole is a joke. I've seen people 3 putt from 3 feet. If we're on a temporary winter-green with a normal hole, a two-putt is always conceded. Put the first one close (with a chance of it going in) and then pick up and move on. If it's an oversized hole then you putt out. Obviously, it would be different in a competition, but then again, I wouldn't play in a competition with temporary greens, tees etc.

Mate your putting problems all stem from really poor and inconsistent setup. When your hands are that close to your legs at address, you don’t have the space to control the stroke with your shoulders and it becomes “handsy” which can cause inconsistent distance control. You also accelerate the putter head through impact a lot of the time which, again, causes inconsistencies with strike and distance control. Look for putts where you have a far longer follow through than backstroke for reference to this. Opposite is desirable. You need to square up your alignment throughout (feet and possibly shoulders open) check ball position (just forward of centre is ideal) and eyeline (just inside or over ball is best for the vast majority of golfers). Thank me later when you start getting a much better roll 👍😁

I probably did say that didn’t I 🤣 It depends how much you want to improve but 3 putts and poor putting in general have a very big and immediate impact on score. Not sure how many 3 putts you had in this round but you definitely missed a lot of makeable putts and had a bad short miss. Check out the first two putts you hit about 4:30 into the video and these highlight the points I’ve made. Good setup & stroke gives you a much better chance of centre face strike giving you better roll and making speed control easier and more consistent. Worth getting right if you want to lower your scores.

Keep the shoulder turn, but restrict the hip turn on the backswing. You're turning the hips at least twice as much as you should going back. More moving parts means more places things can go wrong. You turn your hips so far that it causes lateral shift to keep your balance. That one change and a better short game attitude and you'd be single digit in no time.

do you guys not play off matts in winter ?? my local course does that in winter to keep the course in pristine conditions. ps great video

Depends on the course. Shit courses don't bother but any good course won't let you play unless you use winter mats

@@SL0409 yeah my courses at Carnoustie is matts from October 31st till march 31st 😫

Very much dependent on the course Reece. Woolley definitely does a fantastic job of keeping the course in great condition trough the winter

Cheers dude! No same putter, does it sound better? I had tried to reduce the background noise on the previous video, I wonder if that had made it sound strange

Some cracking shots there, especially as the temperature would have taken 20 yards off. Well done!
