Definitley didn't pay that for everything! Most of our stuff is second hand so we've found a good amount of deals. Though it's also been collected over the years likely paid around ~$10K for everything over the past 4-5 years as we've furnished our apartment(s)

It is amazing how that whole area in Long Island City along the Waterfront as transformed. I have lived in Astoria for 65 years near the Steinway piano Factory. Like you said that whole area in Long Island City was all industrial and I am old enough to remember the steam whistle would blow for the warehouses to let them know what time it was the steam whistle with blow 8 in the morning 12 noon and then 4:30 to let out. You have to be around my age to remember the steam whistle. If my memory serves me correctly the steam whistle was on Vernon Boulevard around Borden Avenue somewhere in that area.

wow, you are golden, a necessary connection to the days when the life and/or era that is now being celebrated were the reality. i always wondered how many folks are still around who remember or worked at domino, pepsi or the ______ bread company. for those who did work at the various industries of the area, it was their life line and bread & butter, the steam whistles, the clock chimes and the church bells marking the hour are all sorely missed. they were part of the rhythm and rhyme of an era.

Crazy how times have changed. I lived in the most coveted, historical street in L.I.C. from 1998-2005 in a brownstone which used to house the Ziegfeld Follies dancers. Many famous television shows and movies filmed on my street weekly. My one bedroom apartment had a private patio and entry to a "secret" shared garden maintained by the property owner. Many fabulous parties in that gorgeous garden! My rent there upon exit in July 2005 was $1500. I only left for a new job in Chicago and I cried my eyes out to give up that apartment. I could never afford that apartment now. 😥

Long island city is underrated. I used to live in Astoria and that area was one of the only affordable ones left in NYC.
@kayflip22332 жыл бұрын
LOL, Astoria is one of the more expensive neighborhoods in NYC. There are tons of way more affordable neighborhoods than Astoria - All of the Bronx, Staten Island, Eastern Queens and Brooklyn, Harlem are all way more affordable than Astoria. That means the vast majority of the city.

@@kayflip2233 I "USED TO", That area "WAS". And when I was talking about affordability, I also considered tons of other factors then picked the relatively acceptable neighorhoods. Yes, Bronx is affordable, but it's affordable for a reason. You can also get shot walking on the street, hard pass

As someone who sews for a living, Im gonna go out on a limb and say that sewing machine is mainly for show at this point. The amount of particles and thread and scrap fabric and noise that would happen if you sewed out in the open like that is just impractical. She must put together precut samples every now and then or something. But that's nowhere near a sewing space.
