Hi Hollts, I found your channel through recommend when I was watching Vallun build videos. I saw 10k hours on reaper and was mesmerized by the video, the editting, the plays, the amazing taste in music and being an ele main who's barely touched scourge for pve I made my reaper the very next day and got rekt in wvw duels. I enjoyed each moment of playing it abd practicing it because You made me see what it was capable of. Cut to few months later I kinda lost interest in gw2 but I kept coming back to your channel for your house playlists. I literally had one of your house compilation from your playlist running for every gaming session for a month staight and still listen to it occasionally. I'd like to say thanks for introducing me to amazing music, for teaching me the deathly ways of a reaper and most of all for your amazing content. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours and would like you to know that you'll always have a fan in me. PS: I made the surprised Pikachu face when I realised you're actually younger than me, you are way more mature and I thought of you as much older.

I would say, myself as someone who was also glued to the game, GW1 included, 12k hours in GW1, 25-26k in GW2. I found i needed to dial it back & grow personally, Growing that independence. as this process settled into a position i am comfortable with i have given myself some play time with the game. Dropped my main for Mesmer & Engineer, something I'd never played & it's been fun being a filthy casual noob again, play less than what i used to but the time now feels more fun & meaningful. Only thing left to do now is rebuild friendships, almost everyone i know has either outgrown the game or nolonger keeps intouch. I dont like one sided communication so i let most of the old slide. Thousands of players out there, no point trying to hold a few that don't talk etc. I'm on NA, usually oceanic but working nightfill recently so might be playing afternoon instead of evenings. Will know more as i get used to the schedule.

I found for me that the older I got the more time it took to get "good" at a competitive game or to understand a complex game. Gaming in general tends to go more towards a casual style as well because of having to sustain yourself and set your life up for success. Now I have to pick and choose every game to see if its worth my limited time and I find myself not wanting to play games I'm terrible at or grindy RPG type games.

To be honest, this might be the first or one of the first videos I watched of you (probably because I am not into PvP and only discovered the Necro lately for me). Seems like I missed out on something. But anyway, I respect your reasoning and hope everything goes well in this other strange place called real life. I also hope that, maybe after a break, you will find enjoyment in playing this game for your own fun. Because that is what gaming should be about after all.

@@Hollts It was and still is freakin awesome! and I still play it on that toon too. Yeah GW2 may feel like it took up a great majority of the channel. You can't deny the fact that the montages weren't stellar.

I have taken breaks off the game often since launch. I play when I have fun and sometimes other games appear that I want to switch to for a while and its fine. Because of how GW gearing is built you hardly lose anything even if your away for months or even years before checking the game again :). So I dont say farewell but see you next time. Personally I had a child earlier this year and partly because of that and new hobbies I didn't play games at all for few months but recently came back when I have couple hours of time to play some days and I'm having fun again in GW2 and other games. Everyone definitely needs to find their own balance in life between all things.

Only discovered your channel this year but your story and history is almost identical to my own, and I could not agree more with your judgements. Would like to share my story with you so you know you aren't alone. I started playing on release when I just turned 13 and got fully addicted after a couple years and went full degenerate until like 2020 or something, and had over 20k hours by that point. I naturally became good, maybe not as good as you but something respectable for sure, it just happens if you really love the game. I went into raid/fractal speed running, wvw commanding and gvg, got ultimate dominator title etc. Invested so much time and effort but I also felt the stagnation the last few years in myself, and no real desire to improve, especially after EoD. I simply just don't enjoy PvP or roaming at all post EOD. the builds feel boring to play and even more boring to fight and outnumbered fighting has only become harder and harder with all the damage nerfs, without much nerf to sustain or downstate or res skills. Fractals feel stale. PvE raids feel stale. EOD strikes are ok and that's been the only thing I have done recently, progress the strike cms but even that is getting boring now. I got into content creation on another game (Civ 4) because guild wars 2 content creation didn't really suit me and I was already starting to burn out at that time (2020~). I did not even touch another game from 2014-2020 as all my time and effort was invested in this game, but I have started drifting more and more away from GW2 recently,. Few things I can say that really as put me off; they lowered the skill bar too much that in wvw/pvp its just a numbers game as the class play themselves for you, doesn't matter that much if you are bad anymore - its very hard to win outnumbered fights and secure kills. Too much passives, healing, low damage output/hard to burst etc. Another thing is just the lack of balance and skill changes, they used to do massive updates twice a year that reworked ENTIRE trait lines or trait systems all together, and over 200 changes in those patches. Now we get like 10-20 skill changes every couple months and most of the patches are PvE only, and the competitive ones don't really change much except just make it more uninteresting and nerf damage, rarely ever sustain. In 2015/2016 I was a really good ele player I dueled on that shit for hours every day and learned every build, grinded ranked and absolutely loved it. But the expansions and several nerfs have really butchered it, and still to this day half the traits, weapons and utilities are underwhelming or irrelevant. Last major thing that put me off is the community has only gotten worse, most of the great people I looked up to, or just a lot of friends have left and now it's just full of toxic children, bots, and wintraders. WvW zerging/roaming is worse. in zergs hardly anyone wants to fight unless they have way more numbers (at least in NA) and in roaming people run from duels and come back to run you down with 5 of their buddies. Anyway, I'm still playing but less and less, its down to maybe 2-3 hours a fort night now and looking pretty grim. Something big needs to happen otherwise I am going to keep losing interest and quit myself. You're awesome and I love your content, hope you can keep the channel going with another game.
@Hollts2 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more with you wow. Everything you said was absolutely true. I was watching some of my older videos and I feels like I'm watching a different game. Everything has passive healing nowadays so, like you said, PvP and WvW are much more difficult in outnumbered situations. And don't get me started on PvP and WvW updates, since almost nothing has changed haha. It's been THE SAME maps for 9 years and I am so done with it. Oh well. Little rant. Thanks for the kind words! More music coming, but will not play any other games.

watching itself playing after a match is always very important, that's what we used to do after a Gw1 GvG even when wining we would analyze each other gameplay, calls, offense and defense. This is mandatory IN EVERY GAME if a person really is interesting in mastery it. Sadly Gw2 pvp and class balance was always a joke compared with gw1 and maybe as a whole game itself.. its a pretty game but 90% of the content is useless no matter what u play it which becomes a problem for content creators and players that need more the current redundancy.. Theres more action and content in transporter tycon :P Take care Hollts!

I was worried when I saw the title (I'm not a regular viewer of your channel so I didn't know how much of a following you have) that this was going to be another person whining about how the game isn't good enough for them, but all the reasons you gave were the same reasons I quit WoW and have taken numerous breaks from GW2. Thanks for all you did for the community dude, I'm more of a thief main but it seems like necro mains really love your content. Hope life goes well for you, if your channel's success is any indication you'll do great at whatever else you strive for. I read on one comment you're like 23 or something, I'm 27 and totally understand how life picks up pace and it becomes more difficult to spend time on a game. I became very discouraged fighting another thief main who beat me every time even when I played a build that was supposed to counter them. I've come to the realization that I need to stop worrying about my skill level and just worry about having fun. Anyway good luck man, and really you're making the right decision prioritizing your real life, and it's super mature that you admitted that you had an addiction to GW2.

Hey there! No worries, most of my thoughts surrounding the game are extremely positive. The combat system and horizontal progression is unmatched. It's just a personal experience for me. Time to prioritize health, life and fun :) Have fun in game!

GW2 has the best PvP mechanics, that I have ever played. And I've played a lot of MMORPGs and this is the best one when it comes to PvP. And the PvE and the gearing system are awesome too. New players can join any time and be a part of it. Unlike other MMORPGs where u get behind and it's impossible to get to the higher level. And I've always enjoyed your content. Great player!

Hey Hollts. Years ago, you let me and another fan join your party after you destroyed our team and we pvped a match together (which btw we lost terribly and then we parted ways xD ) But I want to say thank you. Back then you were a legend to me, but after this video I can see the human being in you. I too learnt a lot through this game (some of it thanks to you) and got over a lot of my personal problems through it, so your struggle and words really resonated with me. Thank you for that and your work and your honesty. I hope whatever you do next, you can really pour your heart into.
