On today’s episode, we chat with Jennifer Duran, a Former Admissions Officer from Columbia University and InGenius Prep counselor. Jennifer and I discuss what types of students Columbia looks for and what sets it apart from the other Ivy League schools. Jennifer highlights what attributes students should showcase in their applications as well as how to tackle the supplemental essays.

I feel that it is bias that a person who reads Marvel comics would not be considered because of this. That person could be the next journalist or author. Maybe they are interested in the dynamics of how Marvel books are made and want to become an engineer who makes games. Also I am glad that test scores are optional because all students don't test well but make excellent grades and are that curious, inquisitive, creative and critical thinker who would do extremely well In Columbia.

They should also look at how the child fared given their environmental factors.

i think they do look at where the student went to school and what was readily available to them, including their family’s income

I am interested in quantum physics at Columbia. Would you mind asking those in your Quantum Initiative department for me AS to how eye could be accepted and get back to me on that? Thanks! -Terry Michael Raymond

Hello!! Does it affect when one has their major undecided while applying?
@Ingeniusprep
@Ingeniusprep Жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely. We never recommend applying undecided. Admissions officers want to see that you've explored your interests and have plans for the future. It's ok if those plans change, but you should always choose a major when applying.

I just got to the part about the standardized testing. If I got a 34 on the ACT but only got a 1400 on the SAT, would it hurt me to submit both scores? Thanks!

@@miraculouslynada lol, I'm usually hesitant about that considering how cynical so many people are on there

Hi, it depends on the school regarding your SAT score, but there is no reason to submit both scores. A 34 is great just submit that.
