Austin Twiss anti inflammatory diet highly helps with cte and brain problems. I really believe it’s the fluid in the brain that causes cte to get so bad. When you have multiple concussions you brain swells and gets bruised and scarred and your body produces wayy more fluid in your brain which leads to pressure and strangulation of the brain

I myself suffered a concussion in 2006 when I got hit on my motorcycle. I was wearing a helmet but my head hit so hard that it was still enough impact to give me a concussion. It was the first concussion or head trauma I had ever got. I can tell you with all truth that a concussion is pure hell. Your emotions change rapidly and the pain in your head makes the top if your head feel like it is going to explode. It lasts for 45 days. In this 45 days you can and will get periods of rage and extreme depression. A single concussion takes 45 days to fully heal. Looking back I can only imagine what these football and NFL players go through with constant concussions that don't even heal. It's gotta be hell !!!

I've had a concussion. A big one. I was unconscious for at least 20 minutes. I regained consciousness as I was being loaded into an ambulance. The EMT asked me questions. I got the first few. The one that got me was, "Who is the president of the United States?" I couldn't answer it. I remember laughing because I couldn't answer it. How could I not be able to answer such an easy question? I got 25 stitches in my forehead, and my fiancee and friends took me home. That night was horrible. My fiancee had to wake me up every hour to ask me questions, per doctor's orders. Her whispers to me felt like explosions in my head. Twenty years later, I still do not remember anything about the accident. I know what these players went through. It is scary stuff.

What he is saying in a very bad manner, is that not everything is about money. Peoples lives and kids and families get destroyed by related mental issues. Maybe the families would prefer to have a father and being poor than being rich and fatherless. Young men and their parents should be properly informed of the risks. Same goes with boxing and potentially other sports. Losing your brain is not the same as having a bad knee. I don't think you should put a price to that.

In high school I played the entire game. Every snap, offense, defense, special teams. One time on a kickoff (us kicking) I hit this guy really hard. I had to ask a teammate if we were offense or defense. He looked at me like an idiot and said we are defense. It took a few plays before I knew what I was doing. We used to call it getting your bell rung. I am 44. I forget common words when talking to people in addition to other memory issues. I avoid people because I struggle with conversation. I'm glad I found this vid Thomas. Played contact sports from 13-22 years old. My concussions usually consisted of seeing bright colors all over, highlighter green in particular. My 1st serious concussion was from a blind side, for the next few days in pads it was like being in the clouds. (it wasn't a bad feeling at the time, I felt careless.) as I got older I accumulated more concussions, the worst putting me in the hospital. I'm 28 now, i have no idea how many concussions I've had, but I'm suffering. I cannot recall names, I have to write everything down, my mental abilities seem to have halted or regressed. I don't see a bright future for myself but I hope those in their early stages of sports see this and recognize the dangers of concussions. I know there are others out there like me, your not alone. May god watch over each and everyone of you. -matt

Michael Craig I love the NFL but hate that it is becoming too violent a sport because of all the "improvements" and "enhancements" over the years. There are things that can be done to lessen the impact collisions, but in the end I think it's going to become a game of touch football. Every week, it seems, the collisions and injuries become more and more noticeable. You can't fully appreciate the power, speed and force of the collisions unless you're on the sidelines and witnessing them up close.

+Karim S. O. Akele I think you should educate yourself more on the TBI/CTE debate. Problem is players are only now becoming aware of the risks they're taking --many are still in the dark/denial. For decades the NFL published scientific literature in reputable journals stating head injuries aren't a problem; a player could get knocked out and return to a game without problem; there is no long term dangers in repeated concussions; etc. The NFL knew about the long term effects of continuous head trauma for decades and not only suppressed it, but outright lied to the players, public and medical community. 78% of pro-players have stated they don't trust their team doctors. If you think players are aware of the risk they're taking you are both greatly deceived and a major part of the problem. The NFL needs fans that not only care about the game but athletes as well --not those who enjoy players smashing their heads against each other until they go brain dead. In conclusion, I didn't mean to insult you but my hope is that you would open your eyes and become part of the solution. Football is a great sport, I would hate it to go away because all fans care about is blood.

I've had 3 concussions where all 3 resulted in loss of consciousness. First one was in high-school football practice. Woke up seeing balck floating specs and I couldn't see what I was looking at... just the periphery. Trainer had me breath into a paper bag. He said I had an oxygen imbalance in the brain!! Next concussion was when I got mugged by 3 guys and after I got sucker-punched from behind and hit the ground and the last thing I saw was a boot coming at my face... the final concussion was in a car accident. In that accident I had broken my hip, arm, knee cap and fractured my skull. I remember waking up in the emergency room... the nurse was about to sit me upright so they could stitch up my scalp and I heard a male voice say "get that pan ready, he's had a concussion and will vomit" and sure enough as I came upward I hurled all over the nurse! Poor nurse... I blacked out and woke up in x-ray where they were x-raying my hip... To this day, I suffer black-outs, dizziness and severe headaches that start at the base of skull and end up in the top or front of my head and have violent mood swings. It's been tough holding onto jobs... when employers just don't know who's going to show up for work today in my body and fellow employees fearing if I'm going to explode in a fit of rage. Lost many jobs because of this. Needless to say... I forbid my son play tackle football. Not worth it.

I've had a concussion so much worse than what he is describing. I was hit in the head with a steel support pole at my old job. I woke up and started trying to walk to central control. As I was walking I completely lost my sight and my hearing and started throwing up. Then I couldn't tell which way was up and I started losing feeling and control of my body so I went on to my hands and knees for a few minutes. I wanted to call for help on the radio but I couldn't make words in my head. I started crawling and made it to an opening where my boss saw me and took me to the hospital. Luckily I made a full recovery (after a few weeks). I've never experienced anything more intense in my life and probably never will until I die. And I suspect dying might feel a lot like what happened to me.

I think he might have been playing it up a bit as a figure of speech when he said stars. If he did, and I am not calling him a liar either especially due to the nature of the injury itself and its' symptoms. Forgetting things, in other words. But if he DID see stars it might be a subconscious thing because he grew up watching cartoons like the rest of us and knows that getting your shit kicked in often leads to "stars" over the characters' head. So he gets knocked into this subconscious space and then it's maybe like dreaming, but not really. Black spots seems like the more common thing, or "fuzzies" or whatever, that actually seems like what would actually happen. But I have no idea. Only way to know I guess is to get one which I don't intend to do anytime soon.

I had a childhood concussion from a bicycle accident. The out of body experience described was true in my case. I was riding through a dirt lot, I hit a ditch and experienced the out-of-body sensation of flying through the air. The next conscious memory I had was walking my bike home, I don’t know how much time later. My two brothers were with me. My face was heavily scraped up. As far as I know, I recovered fully. But it’s also impossible to say if the incident has affected me permanently into adulthood in any way. I do have depression and mental health issues. Who knows.

I get lost driving, I get paranoid, it's almost like being bipolar but your not.

Same here, I know how it feels like to have a concussion, Here's my story: At about the age of seven, I was going to a birthday party in a hotel. So, I was playing with the other kids at the pool inside the hotel. I was running around then suddenly, I slipped and hit my head really hard. EVERYTHING went all blury, I was just laying on the floor, sittin tgere and no one ever bothered to help me. Ever since that happend, I began to have slurred speech, poor balance, and I vecame very forgetful. 4 years later, this didn't happen too long ago, I went back to the sane hotel from before, I accidentally dropped something. I ran too fast and hit another concussion. I was really light headed and dizzy. Everything was going dark. After I kept saying "What just happened?" And "I don't remember" my whole family just didn't beileve me. Then afterwards I passed out. I don't exactly remember what happend after that . Nowdays, I'm a very forgetful, weird and clumsy girl. I never told ANYONE about this but it's finally out. I still have my concussion. Anyway, thanks for reading this.

I was concussed once. I was playing rugby. I was tackled by 2 people and they had their arms wrapped around me. One of them decided to take their fustration out and kneed me in the back of my head twice. I remember hearing music, and i remember seeing black dots zoom across the sky. I woke up in the hospital not being to speak or move my fingers. It took my a year to learn how speak and write again, and its just because that guy was angry...

I have always found that when getting up or awakening from a concussion that you feel really unsure of everything , especially trying to figure where you are at the moment . The best description I heard was by a boxer named Billy Costello in the book "Black lights " which was what being knocked out was called . As he said in the book you never see the one that knocks you out .lol

my 1st concussion before high school football was interesting. People used to talk to me … I would understand but when i walk away I would constantly wonder if they said that or it was a blank memory. 2nd was my sophomore year… I was a safety at the backer position for scout team, I came down and thought the play was over because the running back was on the other side of the field… 1 seconds later I get my bell rung fullback impact hit by the varsity guard “BOOM!” I didn’t fall… half my chin strap screws came loose, my face mask was bent, I lost my hearing temporarily, my vision was dimmed and I was dizzy

I played safety in high school (2000-2004) and I've had a few concussions (possibly more). Sometimes I'd get hurt worse than the guy I was hitting. It's crazy how, back then, they'd tell you to sit out a few possessions and go back in if you felt like you could (and I did more often than not). I wish we had concussion protocols like they have now at all levels of the game.

+scifyry Damn, good thing you're safe now. Any type of head injury shouldn't be taken lightly, the brain is what keeps you alive. And I know what you mean when you say you'd get hurt more. Same here I used to play rec football, tackle and even tho I never had a concussion or a head hit, tackling a guy by grabbing and throwing hurts you more than him, idk how and why but it does.

+Ryder Washington Head injuries are more lethal but other injuries can cripple/disable you early in life. I read an ESPN article about a LB for the Bucaneers who played during the 90's. Don't recall his name, but if he didn't lay in one specific position, he would be in constant pain. Money is a huge motivator but quality of life must be taken into consideration, especially if a player has kids.

Depends on which Ryan (my first name) you ask. If you'd asked me that my senior year of high school or while I played a few years of minor league football...definitely worth it. Most things accomplished in life do not come without sacrifice. Movie stars sacrifice privacy, athletes their health, pilots time with family, etc. Boils down to how much you want it and whether or not you can handle or accept the risk/sacrifice.

I played pee-wee football from 3rd grade-7th grade (ages 11 to 14). From what I remember I have suffered at least 7 concussions plus 1 from a bicycle accident and 1 from a baseball injury. The worst one that I remember was from football. I don't remember getting hit. But when my coaches came out to get me, I tried to tell them something but nothing was coming out of my mouth. It was like for about 1-2 minutes I couldn't form any words. I kinda knew what I wanted to say, but I couldn't talk.

Still cant recall what happened till this day in those 2-3 hrs but after the 2-3 hours, it was like i woke up and was questioning where i was and how i got here. Apparently during the 2-3 hours i kept asking people i dont know where i am, what am i doing etc. had a friend who sustained a similar injury back in 2021 and he kept asking me similar questions. Thats when i knew. Difference is, he went to the doctor who told him he suffered a concussion whereas i didnt, which was stupid of me.

When a concussion happens it doesn’t even hurt. It’s like a warm fuzzy floaty experience, like numb but functional and I don’t care what these guys say you can tell you’re concusses immediately because you get this I can’t stop thought in your head rather than the oh this is bad I better just relax. It’s like you need to keep moving like your body is telling your brain don’t give up now let’s get it. It’s when you slow down, relax, come to fully the pain kicks in like a storm of pain you can’t imagine, shakes, puking, spins, brain feels like it’s coming out your eyes and ears. Hope to Christ I never have another one. These guys are seriously nuts playing this game and I don’t care what anyone says. You cannot put a price on your health. I got mine serving in the military but I ain’t here for a pity party. Just sharing my experience with you all on the subject and what I personally think.

It can't be stopped. Getting hit directly in the head is NOT the only thing that can cause a concussion. And these guys get multiple concussions, it's the nature of the game. That's what leads to CTE. Anything that causes the brain to hit the inside of the skull will bruise it.

Concussions are more than nasty. I've had my share of head bumps. But if you ever decide to intentionally put your brain through a career like this, always think of the fact how great of a gift your senses and perceptions of the world are and how each of these tons-of-force-in-a-matter-of-milliseconds hits has a potential to diminish them and thus, while you work on toughing it out for the sake of your coach or your team or whoever, technically robs you out of your own self...

I've had a concussion. I was unconscious for about twenty minutes. I remember the EMT asking me questions, and the one I couldn't get was, "Who is the President of the United States?" Easy question, and I didn't have a clue. I got my 25 stitches, went home, and that's when I sank in. The wife had to wake me up every hour and ask me simple questions. Her whispers sounded like shouts. I never want to go thought that again.

I’ve been ko’d twice playing rugby, been stung seeing stars playing rugby league. From expert I can say I’d rather go out cold than being hit and on the brink of unconscious, it feels like your brain is trying to squeeze itself out of your ears and eyes. The first time I was knocked out I was 14, it took me 15 years to remember showing up to the game! I woke up as I was being put into an ambulance! Apparently I had a seizure, my teammates said I was talking after the seizure but I can’t remember any of that. When I came too I felt ok though, just confused.

I've had 2 concussions my entire life. One was ice skating and I fell and hit my head on the ice. The other one was when a dude sucker punched me twice. Both times it felt like I was on auto pilot. It was like I was awake and functioning except I wasn't in the drivers seat if that makes sense. I remember talking and what not except I couldn't make clear thoughts. And I wasn't remembering anything I was saying or doing. Like it wasn't being stored in my memory.

I no longer suffer from the HORRENDOUS skull pain (occipital neuralgia); my balance, speech, memory & vision eventually returned but it was a VERY scary time.It took me over a year to see improvement, but I made it...only to suffer another one 14 months later (slammed my head into car trunk). Second concussion wasn’t as bad as the first one, but it was still hell to endure skull pain, balance, vision, speech & memory issues again. Hoping to never get another one again & praying all who are suffering from one, a successful recovery. 8/30/20 @ 6:34P.
