I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. ~~~~~~jAN 01, 202~~rEN~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~MY WORDS."I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction."...ALL REN....FROM THIS POINT ON...jAN 01, 2024~~rEN~~~~~~~As an artist who also struggles w/my health I think that Ren's

Ren isn't bi-polar, or schizophrenic. He was wrongly diagnosed with bi-plar and other mental conditions and wrongly told that his physical symptoms were all in his head. Meanwhile his REAL, chronic physical conditions were left to ravage his body and brain. The strong psychotropic drugs they had him on caused a strong autoimmune response, making his physical condition even worse. They also helped cause genuine mental health problems, including full blown psychosis for a while. However, being bedridden for the best part of 7 years and in so much chronic pain, that he was unable to get any proper sleep... for seven years, was the main factor in causing the psychotic break. An eventual correct diagnosis and treatment, improved his condition enough that he was able to have a life once again but he remains chronically ill and in constant pain.

Welcome to the multitalented genius Ren! ❤️ This masterpiece is just the tip of the iceberg. Ren is a relatable voice for everyone dancing in the darkness as he eloquently, with all the authenticity of someone who is painfully familiar with it, lets us know that we are not alone and inspires us to keep dancing. And in doing so, Ren has literally saved lives with his art. Other Renegades will probably recommend songs like Sick Boi and Troubles for insight into his story with illness and years of misdiagnosis. I will just add a suggestion to check out one of my personal favourites that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it deserves: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before Ren was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and stunning. And a little help to guide you on your journey: While I’m sure plenty of people will tell you to react to the trilogy of tales in the correct order, it is often overlooked that there are a few other songs best done in order of release (though doesn’t have to be in one sitting): Freckled Angels -> Suic!de -> For Joe. Also if you want to understand the man behind the art (and why we all love him so dearly), check out his 1m subscribers video on defining success. Ren is not just a brilliant artist but a genuinely good human being who wants to inspire positive change in the world. Hope to see you deep down the Ren rabbit hole with the rest of us 🐰🕳️

A few things to bear in mind... 1. This song isn't about mental illness or chronic illness. It's about the human condition generally, accepting that darkness is part of life and that both light and dark are neither wholly good, nor wholly bad. Not just my interpretation. I'm paraphrasing Ren here. 2. Ren is a LOT more than just a rapper, as you'll discover if you choose to explore his work. :) Don't get me wrong, he can rap like a rap god but he's also an incredible singer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, director, poet, songwriter etc and much more besides. He also writes and performs in every major genre... and doesn't miss! :) 3. (unlike NF) Ren is fully independent. No label, no financial backing, no PR machine or publicist, no management company. Every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren. He's turned them all down! With Ren, it really is all about the music! Ren actually made history last year, becoming the first fully independent artist to achieve a number 1 UK album! Knocking Drake off the top spot in the process! The album also went top 10 in several other countries, topped the US hip-hop album chart and reached number 1 on the iTunes worldwide chart! :) 4. Ren is chronically ill and in constant, 24hr pain. He's suffered horrendously with his health and at his worst was bedridden for the best part of 7 years. He has permanent damage to his body and brain, has to undergo daily treatments and is on shedloads of medication. He suffers from Lyme's disease, bartonella, MCAS, severe autoimmunity, (making him highly allergic to virtually all food and much else besides) neuropathy, adhd, ptsd, chronic depression and a whole host of associated conditions. There's a lot more to tell re' his health but I'd be here all night... He's currently in Canada, at the start of 8 months of intensive treatment. 5. Ren is from the UK. Specifically from Wales, where he was born and raised, to English parents. He is therefore both British and Welsh and is very proud of his Welsh background. He's lived in Southern England for most of his adult and calls Brighton, on the South Coast of England, his hometown. Although from Wales, Ren sounds English. Ren is 34. 6. Ren is a unique artist. A musical genius! A once in a generation talent! He's also a wonderful and inspirational human being, highly intelligent, with a heart of gold, a rebellious streak a mile wide and with a wicked sense of humour! :) 7. Ren's great! Ren's music is great! Definitely react to more Ren! You won't be disappointed. You WILL be surprised... constantly! :)
