Its illegal ,as it circumvents thai land laws.unless you have a real company with 'paid up' shareholders.the agents would have you believe different of course.foregners can own 49%of condos in a building and often pay a 'premium price over thais

Pratumnak Soi 6 is an awesome place to live. I had a condo about 50 meters further down on the left. Easy 5 minute walk to the beach or any bar/restaurant on Soi 5.

​​@@keithy507 exactly... I think if you are sure you're going to stay somewhere for 10+ years then it may be better to buy. Many agents will arrange longer term rentals for your property if you do decide to travel about after a while... and you are paying into something you will own (as good as if a foreign quota condo etc) so you can sell it later down the road. Even if you lose some money on the sale, you won't lose as much as you would have lost by paying 10 - 15 years rent... and like I said, in a good location you can rent it out on longer term rentals so that it covers the monthly costs plus a small profit (if you decide to travel for 6 months or longer) Each to their own at the end of the day.

Well, since houses typically rent for less than condos of equal square footage in Thailand I guess its lucky for you that you have this strange aversion to living in condos. Of course, as I’m sure you know, pretty much anything close to the beach, or even with a view of the sea is going to be a condo here and not a house, so location plays a big part in why some people prefer condos to houses. Also Thai houses are typically horribly designed. I realize of course that to the average person what is a “good” or “bad” design is purely a matter of personal preference, but when I say the designs are bad I’m speaking from an architectural standpoint. The layouts of typical Thai homes are just very odd and the space is not used efficiently at all. In fact, in most cases it seems as if the people who designed these houses did not even learn the most basic design rules that I had to learn in first year architecture. The house in the video was actually not too terribly bad as Thai house go but there were still plenty of things I did not like about it - including the artificial turf around the pool as it just looks tacky and is not at all befitting a high-end home. Basically it ruins the whole aesthetic of the pool area. Anyway, unfortunately I just don’t have time to get into all the other things I don’t like about this particular house.

That's the truth over here in Southern CA. Although, here you don't have the dicey property issues with buying and owning land you would in Thailand. If I make it out that way I think I would feel a lot safer renting / leasing a place to stay than dealing with the risks otherwise.
