WHAT A TWIST | Wrestlings Greatest Swerves
Sometimes in wrestling, you can figure out what’s going to happen next from a mile away. After all, we all knew when Hulk Hogan or John Cena would find a way to overcome the odds and stand tall by the end, or that Vince McMahon or any other number of authority figures would eventually get their comeuppance. But what happens when the story takes a twist that surprises us? Well, while we’ve looked at some of the worst examples of this over on a previous video on this channel, there have been plenty of great examples too. So, join us today as we take a deep dive into the best of them in What a Twist: Wrestling’s Greatest Swerves.

Considering the number of people Triple H turned on over the course of his career, it should have been NO surprise that he turned on Seth Rollins. One swerve you missed was one in WCW nobody saw coming at the time (except possibly Bobby Heenan). At WCW's 1996 Bash at the Beach during the match between Sting, Lex Luger and Randy Savage vs Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and a mystery partner, Hulk Hogan came to the ring and used his leg drop on Savage, making an unexpected heel turn and revealing himself as the mystery partner of Hall and Nash.

Still the best cash in of all time from Seth Rollins. I didn't even think of him cashing in at WM31. I was expecting Roman to walk out as champ that day. And Seth's heel turn was one of THE greatest heel turns of all time. It was done perfect. When Seth grabbed the chairs, I thought he grabbed it for The Shield in case Triple H and Orton tried to do something, but nope, it was to hit Dean and Roman. Very unexpected especially since they just turned face and were having an amazing run. Dean's face said it all.

I was watching Wrestlemania 30 on the Network when it happened. Pokémon Y was on my 3DS in my hands as I was trading Pokémon with a random passersby. I'm watching the Undertaker match. At one point, I look down at my 3DS to deny a dumb trade offer. It took a minute for the other guy to call that quits. When it finally did end, I looked up at my TV to find everyone quiet. The Undertaker was lying on the ground, Paul Heyman was in visible shock, and the audience was silent in a way that chilled me to my core. I thought the Network bugged out on me again, or that some accident had just happened live. When I saw that 21-1 flash on the Titantron, I tell you nobody was prepared to see this. It took at least 6 minutes to hear some sound from the audience, let alone the announcement table. I can't speak for everyone watching in the stadium, but I slowly began to give up on WWE after that night. With the Streak broken and all our favorite wrestlers moving on to grander pastures or passing away entirely, I started to wonder: *What's left to keep old fans like me invested?*

The thing about the streak of the Undertaker being broken was that the Undertaker only saw one person worthy enough of ending the streak, Brock Lesnar. That Mark Henry retirement was quality but the Rollins cash in, did anyone honestly NOT predict that? Seth's turning on The Shield was a far bigger swerve just because they'd spent months implying that it was Ambrose who would turn.

We're about to see another one of these when MJF wins the title at Full Gear. No matter what happens we're either going to expect it and love it anyways or not expect it and love it anyways.
