Lush and beautiful. As I just sat still and felt myself breathe, I pictured Louis Armstrong playing his trumpet on top of all those beautiful harmonies. It was a peaceful, soothing thought. I think he would approve! I know I'll be listening to this many more times. Thanks, Jonny!

You DO have some arranging chops, don't you? One of the best piano arrangements of this song I have ever heard. :-) Thanks for sharing the beauty of your talent. Definitely a keeper, I think I 'may' even look for the CD if you have or are intending to put one out with this on it. Wonderful. ..couldn't resist, sorry.First vid I've seen of yours where I got in at VERY low double digit views. Satchmo rules. I love the little hesitation on the turnaround of the pentatonic glissandos, and then the Easter egg at the end. You really outdid yourself here, sir...chill bumps.

God I wish their were piano tutorials for his music
@mIdNyTe8204 жыл бұрын
He used to have them available for some pieces if you were a pianowithjonny member! their were overhead views of his hands playing the arrangements and you could slow them down and see and learn them that way. He does offer the sheet music for purchase i think from his site. Nevertheless beautiful arrangement Jonny
There is no doubt that Jonny May is a unique magician on the piano, when it comes to the technical performance and to the sense of music. In this case "What a wonderful world", the song starts very well balanced. But - later I wish he would limit his tendency to fill every gap and breathtake in the song with playing scales up and down the keyboard. The song almost dissappear between the fill-in's. It's like having dinner with granny, that insists on stuffing you with food of all kinds without breaks. You end feeling suffocated and full. Next time, please listen to what the song likes to tell us, and use this a set-off for enhancing the spirit of the song - or maybe give it a new interpretation. It's about "a wonderful life", not an excuse to demonstrate technical supremacy - in my opinion. My input: Less piano porn, more space, more focus on the storytelling of the song itself. All meant as a (hopefully) productive feedback :-)

I hope Jonny doesn't see this, but I have to agree with you. I just started taking his classes (which are amazing by the way, and worth every penny), but he does tend to do exactly what you stated, as well as doing what other commenters say of many of his other performances, and that is that he plays many of his arrangements way to fast to be enjoyed. When I get a chance I'm going to approach him about these two issues in a constructive manner and see what he has to say about them, since I am sincerely interested to know his reasoning. His virtuosity is undoubtedly beyond comparison, and when he plays many of his songs tears come to my eyes and I sob like a baby, but more often my head hurts after listening to him play. Especially since I always have headphones on when listening.

I agree. Peterson would just play swing chords and (or) stride without fill-ins.

Beauty of some legendary songs like " what a wonderful world " is mainly to their melody. Ofcourse harmonisation does plays a role. However in this so called performance, harmonisation was over emphasised so much so that the beautifull melody was almost faded into harmonisation! Shame....

I really don't like it.

I do like your cover of this song. However, What a Wonderful World is a beautiful song because of its simplicity and this is far to messy for me.
