So, NASA is sending software updates to Voyager 1 and 2, built in the 1970's, while at the same time Microsoft forced me to buy a new computer in 2022 because they 'no longer have the capability to support Windows XP'. Got it.
@AthanSMaliakkal

😂 ya but the thing is you are not spending millions but NASA is spending millions to do a single update because the programming language is way to old that only 10 to 20 people only know it. And also the size of storage of Voyager is like kb and a windows update needs GBs 😂

NASA are not into "planned obsolescence". Their devices are built to last unlike today's manufactured products that have a limited life span so that the companies can make greater profit.

The difference is the hardware on both spacecraft have not changed. Yours likely has. Similar to the Voyagers onboard computers, my 1984 Macintosh 512K still operates on its original operating system and software just like the computers on the spacecraft. If I knew how to code I could update its software too.

Way back my daughter got a her hot off the press Carl Sagan book/ compilation called "Murmurs of Earth" - it covers the making of a recorded disc bolted to one of the Voyager craft just in case any one out there ever found it.

Thank you. I remember growing up with these epic Voyagers of the deep unknown. Kudos to the scientists who were able to take advantage of the 175 year planetary alignment. I suspect that these emissaries will outlive the human species

We didn’t stop. For the last two decades people have been permanently living and working in space. Apollo astronauts were on the moon for two weeks total. ISS has been a huge success. Now with Artemis we’re going back to the moon to stay. Then Mars.

Even when they run out of rocket fuel the antenna will still be pointing where earth is going to be so we would have to wait a year for a window where we can transmit and receive data but it could be worse
@jacoblind5390
@jacoblind5390 Жыл бұрын
Both Voyagers power will be deleted before it runs out of fuel so it will be dead in space. Even so it won’t be pointed directly at earth once a year. It might be close but with the entire solar system traveling thru the galaxy the angle would slightly change

I hate that everyone makes the claim "they past the edge of the solar system" this isn't the case at all.. its an optimistic claim that would be like saying you left earth after just doing a suborbital hop... there's an entire OORT cloud to go before it's out of the sun's influence which is the boundary of the solar system....

Giving the "address" of earth is pretty stupid idea. If there are other alien life form that has the ability to travel to earth, they would be much further ahead in technology and what would they do to a primitive race like human? wipe them out? enslave them? isn´t that what human would/are doing do to other animals?
