What Actually Happened To DogDay In Poppy Playtime Chapter 3? - Story Explained

Poppy playtime chapter 3 had a crazy scene when Dogday was Possesed by the prototype to chase us and attack the protagonist. In today's video we breakdown what happened to Dogday and what it means for the future of the franchise.
Catnap and the prototype have always had a weird relationship but how does it play into the story and the hour of joy? How does the ending explain what we will face in poppy playtime 4? Why did the smiling critters want to stop them and what happened to them when they got in the way?

I felt so bad for Dogday, I wished we could have possibly saved him and he'd join us kind of like Poppy and Kissy Missy, but it also wasn't so great to have the rest of the Smiling Critters not be able to be seen in the game. I think it would have been way cooler to have more then one of them and not just Dogday, Catnap or the little ones which don't get me wrong, were insanely creepy, but still weren't the same as seeing Dogday at full size. Though another thing people have been pointing out is you could say what sort of happened to him was hinted at in the cartoon that was shown. Since at the end when all the critters were knocked out (aside from Catnap) Dogday's position on the couch mirrored his arms stretched out, and his legs were covered imitating him missing them in the actual game. Just was an interesting detail that people noticed at one point

@@user-cs8qz5lq2f that would be cool to see, I love Dogday, even though he was only on screen for a few minutes, that was probably the most brutal thing shown in the game so far in my opinion, and that's counting watching Mommy Long Legs getting caught in gears cause that was pretty bad too. I honestly would still have loved to see how the rest of the smiling critters would have looked. Like there is a bit of a range on how they appear it seems, since Dogday was more similar in appearance to like how Huggy was, while Catnap very much was different.

@@P.H691 And being able to carry Dogday out to save him definitely would have been great, because we basically just left him to die, since people also have pointed out (I tend to listen to a lot of theory videos of games cause I like to hear people's opinions) one person thought that it didn't fully sound like Dogday was dead yet when they were messing with his body. I know it kind of got mentioned in Rex's video that he's possessed instead of fully dead, but someone else pointed out that I saw somewhere the sounds he was making did not sound like the little critters that they sounded more like someone gasping for air and life so they think he might have been still alive, at least for a little while. Which I don't know but also adds to the we should have been able to save him instead of abandoning him like that! Hearing him potentially telling us to abandon him and leave him behind while we still drag him along with us to safety, that would have probably been a better thing, and a better segment, since you'd likely in something like that would be moving slower, and trying to get away from the small little critters. That actually would have been a bit creepier then just a regular chase sequence that we already kind of had with Miss Delight at that point.

I'm honestly curious about how exactly Dogday knows about us. We can assume he has been locked up for a good while, and Poppy was only freed recently herself from her cage, and yet Dogday connects us to Poppy and calls us her "angel". That suggests that before they both were captured, Poppy discussed us with Dogday. Maybe that is how they got captured by the Prototype and Catnap in the first place? Maybe THEY had worked together (along with presumably Ollie and Kissy Missy) to get the message from the opening to us in the first place? But why? What is so special about our character that Poppy and Dogday risked their lives just to get a message to us as if knowing that we'd follow it?

Another interesting thing is, with the cutouts, the ones with screams at the end are most likely dead. Like Kickin Chicken. But the thing is, Bobby Bearhug, Picky Piggy, and Crafty Corn do not have screams. With Crafty Corn, she must have stayed alive for a bit longer, as she was most likely the one to write in the vents when we are being chased by huggy, but, was eaten by Picky Piggy, who most likely ate Kickin Chicken, Bubba, and as stated before, Crafty Corn. As she says in her cutout: “Seared Elephant, Grilled Chicken, and Flayed Unicorn.” She must have ate those 3. As for Bobby Bearhug, she is still alive, as there is not a scream at the end. She also remembers us, and asks us to take her with us the next time, also saying that shes “lost.” This indicates that she knows who we are, and she might have given us the idea to leave the factory before the “Hour of Joy.” Also, she is most likely hiding out somewhere, if she is still alive (hopefully.) Picky Piggy is most likely alive too, as there is no scream, and she said she was still hungry, and asked us to be friends. The next chapter is rumored to be in a fairground type setting, as for one of the posters showed. (Not confirmed.) This is just a THEORY. Thanks for reading.

Damn this is a good theory. Maybe Crafty Corn was asking for red because they were using it for the poppy flower near the entrance and the warnings, and that's why red is the one that ran out, and then she gets eaten by Picky Piggy.

I like to think of DogDay as a kind of rival to CatNap, at least when all the critters were still alive. DogDAY, CatNAP, day/night, DogDay was the leader of the critters but CatNap takes them away from DogDay, etc etc

I like that DogDay's pose at the end of the smiling critters animation sort of mimics his pose before the little critters crawled inside of him. The way his head is lowered with his arms spread out. In the animation, due to laying his arms against the couch back and arm rest, and in reality because he's shackled.

In the cartoon DogDay is asleep the way he is hung up. He is also to the right of CatNap maybe meaning he was his right hand man and he is the last one left alive. This could mean that maybe DogDay eventually saw through CatNap and tried to help but in the end he was just tortured and kept alive the longest to bring the most pain to him because of his betrayal

5:48 i got this far in and I have to say, that doesn’t sound realistic at all. The little critters that went into dog day simply banded together and take control of dog days corpse, because he died immediately after all the critters got into him, so it was the critters chasing us in dog days body, the prototype can’t use the red gas for influence, he just is very manipulative. Catnap fears the prototype so he worships him saying he’ll free them.

Yeah I didn't really ever thought of this as possession. I just thought it was like a cleaver and grotesque way of the critters eating his insides, then using his corpse as a puppet. "Evil" Dogday is just a dead body fully of critters, kind of like how Oogie Boogie is full of bugs and he's actually just the bugs or something like that.

I think Ollie is the prototype because he knows where you are going, he knows where you will be going next, and Catnap is always watching you, and he's always in every building and he keeps be where you are, and Ollie knows what happened to catnap and tells you the story of why he worships the prototype.

It does if he thinks he's luring us into a trap, or if he maybe wanted rid of catnap but didn't want to do it himself. Catnap seems like a loose cannon with what happened with the other smiling critters, who were originally children, like catnap himself, if the prototype was trying to protect the children in any way, that doesn't seem like it was necessarily part of the plan. But also the prototype seems to want/not care if all of the bigger bodies are dead, he just adds them to himself, the only bigger body that tells us to leave is mommy and she doesn't keep that energy, she wants to "play" with you. But Ollie could be someone else, who knows, we won't until Mob tells us.

my theory is that catnap didnt kill dogday beacouse he was friends or somewhat known dogday before the hour of joy, he was left alive unlike the other ones of the smiling critters beacouse of that. The rest of the smiling critters can be heard dying or getting killed in the game from cardboard cutouts, so that means that they were trying to escape or they didnt obey the prototypes orders or they were trying to help the other not transformed children escape the facility.

I think you’re doing an amazing job with this. I did have a thought when I watched your play through. I believe when the mini-critters went in him, they use their own bodies to act like his limbs. Like there Fazbear Fright book “Room for One More.” The Minirinnas went inside the main character and when he presumably died, they would be in control of him. Or even Ennard going into Michael too. It’s a very sad demise, but I wish to think his misery ended when they ate him from the inside.

Bubba, Kicken, and Crafty got eaten by Picky Pig, or presumably, maybe she was going insane and consider that as an option. Hoppy Hopscotch jumped off into the cave to escape the horrors and presumably died from the fall. Bobby Bearhug I say in my opinion is the worse, she died alone and afraid; though she might still be alive not much indication of what happened to her. Picky Pig may have also died maybe got eaten or killed by Catnap or she could also be alive. Dogday is now a lifeless puppet, ahh but one good thing they may not have completely died. Maybe their souls still linger in the facility. You can still save them, just not their physical body. They may yet return just as souls who want revenge on the prototype.

I think we’re deliberately supposed to feel sympathy for Dogday. I actually really love Dogday, but I think the writers are setting us up to feel sympathy for Dogday because of his horrible situation, but it’s going to be revealed that he’s actually Harley Sawyer, the doctor who tortured the prototype and had a hand in turning Theo into Catnap because they have the same voice actor. We’ve seen that Catnap actually cares about the children, and warns the player that if they don’t leave, he’ll kill them. It’s shown that he feels empathy, so why would he leave Dogday to suffer so horribly especially since the others seemed to die quickly? To give him a taste of his own medicine. I feel like they’re setting us up for a “I can’t believe I felt sympathy for this monster,” kind of moment.

Dogday got possessed, but he couldn't have died from the critters. When you're running away from him, you can still hear him choking on the critters. The scream at the very end didn't sound like his own voice. I wager that the critters inside of him collectively screeched out. Probably were thinking, "WE FAILED, WE FAILED, CATNAP WILL END US NOW", or something else similar. Somebody else in another comment also mentioned that, yes, the critters were probably eating him from the waist up, but not because they want to end him, but because they were all very hungry. Dogday and Catnap are also possibly the eldest, and the critters possibly were drawn to them both, seeing them like parents maybe? I believe that we'll see Dogday, ALIVE, in chapter 4. I don't think the critters would continue to posses his body. I think that they'll leave him. He'll probably be feeling like Death is upon him; tired, unable to move around properly. Maybe he'll find a place to rest and we'll meet him with Kissy and Poppy. There's a mod that let's you free Dogday before he gets possessed, I don't think that it'll be exactly like the mods, but maybe we could find his lower half and patch him up. Making him stronger and more helpful to the player, possibly? Imagine if we get chapter 4 and we're all just trying to survive the Prototype. Maybe at the end all 4 of us (player, Dogday, Kissy, & Poppy) can try to get back to the surface and see the sun, the REAL sun. Sorta like how it was for Undertale. But I suspect that when we all leave the building, everyone would probably need to live in the woods and just stay away from people. Just cuz a bunch of giant, living, breathing, toy people who look like that need a hefty bath scrubbing, would probably end up getting snatched up by people similar to SCP Foundation. And get tested on like lab rats. Almost if they never left the horrid toy factory.

I do really wish we could have seen all of the smiling critters and see their personalities. I think it would be cool if they slowly killed off the smiling critters throughout the game and then it could be a new way to explain how they act around eachother. Here's a good idea about what i talked about so we save all the smiling critters but picky piggy and krafty corn slowly get hungry and eat bubba elephant and kickin chicken and next picky piggy eats crafty corn and dogday is captured then hoppy hopscotch and bobby bearhug try to help us escape but they get captured and were killed last picky piggy is captured by catnap but becomes friends with catnap and later on we find dogday hung up and the rest is history.

i have a theory kind of like FNAF where because of the zipper on dogday's chest could hint that he was a worker or maybe doctor white did something wrong and needed a subject THAT day. they used his choke-up as a subject for testing but (idk a lot abt poppy playtime) when that happened and they were about to experiment with doctor white but then the hour of joy occurred and the monsters interfered and maybe dogday was a lost member maybe due to security. one of the monsters thought about using the already traumatized doctor white to be inside of dogday and open the zipper PUT HIM INSIDE DOGDAY and watch him suffer bc theo could've known that doctor white did the things to him and hung him for torture but his legs allowed him to stand up so they cut off the legs and put that strap on his stomach area to act like a anti-blood leaking device to keep the doctor alive to torment him for eternity.

I think the theory about catnap or the prototype being able to control the toys holds a lot of weight. Kissy Missy is on our side but she still participated in the hour of joy. I don't think it was her decision though.

Maybe the only reason cat nap didn't kill dog day is because he still has some connections to him is the Prototype good just said he's useless so just kill him but if catnap still had connections then he wouldn't want dog day to die he would want him to stay alive even if he's suffering he might believe that living and being tortured is better than dying

My theory is that Ollie is actually a boy because when poppy and kissy missy find you, poppy talks about how Ollie helped you get this far, and if you listen closely poppy actually uses he/him pronouns in the same sentence. Ether that or poppy is just guessing.

Is anybody thinking about the eyes of dogday and the eyes of catnap being the same? The beady white circles from the teeny smiling critter babies? What if thats a correlation? Not saying catnap is filled with critters, but maybe the beady rings represent the prototype's influence? Catnap followed him and made an altar and everything. Dogday stated thay the teeny critters worshipped him and would blindly follow anything he said as well. Could be a visual representation, could just be how they look, idk, im just word-vomiting right now.
