So I worked at an ups store that took Amazon returns. I can guarantee you we did not give a single flying fck about whether you’re returning the actual item or not. Amazon never even told us to check inside. If we did, we wouldn’t have time for anything else. God I’m so glad I don’t have to do returns for Amazombies anymore

I was about to comment the same thing, I left last month and amazon returns were the worst. We got the kiosks and even though there are step by step instructions most people still git it wrong. And even if they ask and I say there are instructions on the screen they look at the fucking wall then ceiling and say "where am I supposed to be looking? Why can't you just do it for me, the other one does" Like dude I'm going to get fired bc the owner is paying to have these here (God knows why) and if they're open I HAVE to make you use it. I can help you but if you refuse to listen it won't matter

I could rant for an hour straight about the amazon returns, but yeah I'd get the completely wrong item and I'm like 🤷‍♀️ your problem if they don't give you the money back (even though they probably will) The worst was postage required labels, when I have to tell this person they're required to pay for shipping from her ein fl all the way to california (they seem to make it as far as possible so that they aren't willing to pay to return it I guess) usually ot was a couch or a bed frame and was over $200 when the item was half that. Insane

Or when people say they don’t know how to start the return process so they wanted us to do it on their phone for them, like oh sure but you miraculously figured out a way to buy it on your own, right?

No they said bring it here and you'd return it. Uhh okay, can you tell me how you even expect that when I don't even know you I've had ppl argue then go to show me where it says that and they pull uo the code. Or say they don't need packing and do the same thing, pulling up the paragraph of the instructions saying to package the item lol

I also worked for a UPS Store for three years-we literally didn’t care what’s in it, as long as the barcode was right and didn’t require a box to be shipped back (because selling one was a pain). I still call it Whamazon because they either whammed us with business back to back or whaaaaaaaaed over needing a box/to drive to kholes though I always offered to fix their return type if possible 🤷🏻‍♀️

Amazon has return departments that sort and inspect the items after they’ve been sent in. If there is a pattern of the wrong item coming from particular customers they start fraud investigations. Amazon has never expected anyone other than Amazon employees to inspect returns.

Thing that’s annoying about the Amazon return inspectors is that they definitely half ass it. I’ve had multiple occasions where I received an email after the fact saying they still wanted me to return an item that was already returned and processed.

@@MARCM0DE absolutely and they have also caught the Amazon employees pocketing the returns and sorting it as “missing”. If they contact a customer on the “missing” item after they’ve returned it Amazon will do an investigation on the person who sorted the return and anyone who would have handled the item after it’s return process started. So they start with the person who received the item first then move to the location the item was dropped off at like Kohl’s or whole food and then they start looking at the Amazon return center employees. Sometimes they have ongoing investigations on employees and they wait till they can prove they’ve stolen over a certain amount that way they can get them charged and sent to jail.

We accept Amazon returns at Kohl’s and I’ll hand customers the receipt and they’ll be like “Y-you don’t wanna check inside to make sure it’s the right item????” And I’m like “Nah i trust you” it’s not so much that I ‘trust you’, it’s that I don’t really care what’s in the mf box. All we’re expected to do here is take your return, hand you the receipt and go our separate ways. If you’re intentionally returning the wrong item, that’s on you, not me. Like bro do you want your money refunded or not???? You’re not making US look bad. You’re making a fool out of yourself, dawg

Exactly...I worked in retail September 2022 and was let go right before Christmas but the most common phrase used other than "have a nice day" was "I don't get paid enough" because we don't. We had to get everything done, help customers find an item and turn into baby sitters when a kid got lost or their parents left them with us for two hours to do the rest of their shopping...

I did this at target. I re-bought the same headphones 🎧 I had purchased 3yrs ago. I kept the new ones and put the old ones in the box and returned it. The employee didnt check it and even if he did…it was the exact headphones just old and not working anymore. I did it because I was very broke at the time and i needed them for work. A reason why you want to have them check the box at the store and confirm the actual item: the content can change after you handed it in... always take a few photos of the inside and closed box. Can help to prove the box was tampered with after handing it in. Store employee should do the same and attach the photo to your receipt.

To anyone that does returns. I work at a place that does returns I train my coworkers to not give a shit what gets return, we don’t check we don’t have check we don’t get fired. Amazon doesn’t inspect the items they are all handed off to a different bulk seller who auctions it off or sends them to a rummage style place where people go to buy stuff for huge discounts. Your refund depends on if they scanned your return code, and usually shows up in an hour to a day worth of time. This does not apply to returning stuff to an Amazon locker

I used to work at Amazon back when I lived in Lexington, KY. That specific location handles majority of all returns because they're in the middle of the country. This was actually part of the protocol when handling returns. The customer would describe the issue and if I opened the package and the item in question wasn't there I'd report it and I assume someone else would deal with it lol.

worked at an ecommerce store. Amazon doesn't give care. they just mark all returns as damaged and throw it a giant box and return it to the seller. Making the seller eat the cost. Plus they charge $1 to the seller for every return box they make. Amazon now sometimes charges customers for returns. they literally taking money from everyone but not caring about the seller or consumer.

I still try to help customers that are confused or don’t really know what item goes with what, but it’s not my job to do that. I did Walmart returns on car care products years ago. We got leaky bottles of different car care products and some customer returns. I can’t tell you how many bottles of “antifreeze” we’d get back as a customer return that were water.
