For those asking about the grill, we got it from Amazon Japan (non-referral link) www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0118SXWAW/. In the US it's 2.5X the price (referral link) amzn.to/2CzZBfZ.

It's crazy- Shin is so much like my son. The mannerisms, his character, silly bubbly behavior they even look similar. Aiko and Shin are so responsible and it's extremely impressive though that may be due to cultural (I'm from Australia) differences? Most children in Japan are taught to help in the kitchen from a young age? Your videos are so interesting and refreshing- keep up the good work

I sometimes do something similar at my house too here in the US! My family is Viet, so we sort of have this grill thing where we grill squid, shrimp, and some beef that's been marinated with lemongrass before-hand. After we grill it using a fragrant butter, we usually use it in rice-paper wraps and then dip it into a special fish sauce. It's really good!

Where I'm from in France we have something similar. We call it "pierrade" and it's not exactly a grill but a hot stone. The device is about the dimensions as the one in your video, we put it at the center of the table and everyone can grill its food. It's mainly a meat dish, that we then eat with various sauces.

Aww Shis has grown so much! does't look like that little kid running around the frame anymore! We have grilled pork or beef meat, usually prepared with vegetable coal, as for vegetables, some cactus "leaves", onion, and you are lucky, other marinated vegetables. We accompany that with vegetable non-oil salsas of different types, cooked beans and tortillas! Mexican here. Your yakiniku looks delicious and I really want that grill. I loved the mom's voice, good thing she did not cur herself.

In the Netherlands we have something very similar called a gourmet set or gourmet stel the activitity is called gourmetten. It is most often reserved for special occasions like Christmas, new year or Easter when gathering with family. Some people take their gourmet stel with them on a week or weekend holiday with extended family. I really like the Japanese design with water to prevent burn in; our local designs don't have that.

I'm from New Zealand. We have outdoor barbeques. It's good fun. We usually have things like sausages, burger patties. hash browns, onion rings etc grilled on them. We'd have things like bread and salads to go with them. And condiments like barbeque sauce, mustard and tomato sauce.

I bought that exact same grill from your video. Imported to the us along with a step down transformer. Besides takoyaki and yakisoba it makes killer yakitori, okonomiyaki and pancakes.
