The male counterpart is otaku or weeb, like that right? :O
@princesscookie47817 жыл бұрын
Hmm...not really. A fujoshi (rotten girl) is a female who tends to ship two male characters together and enjoy reading Yaoi. A fudanshi (rotten boy) would be a male who does the same. An Otaku in this case would be an anime/manga nerd and could be male or female. Meanwhile weeb is a derogatory word for westerners who are obsessed with anime/manga and try to act Japanese, and their infatuation with Japan is based purely off anime.
@realmysticstrider7 жыл бұрын
I'd also like to add that the term "Otaku" can be used for just a word for "geek" or "nerd" in general. Like I've seen Japanese using it when they call themselves or other people, friends, etc. using "otaku" person for video-games, cars, fashion, school stuff, etc. anything that's not just anime or manga. And I know western people tend to use "weeb" the shortcut for "weeboo" to make fun of each other that doesn't necessarily mean a person is a weeboo, but a lot of people that I use it on we like to use it as a meme to make fun of each other that just talks about anime and manga, or is into anime, manga, etc., not necessarily a weeb though.

You know, I actually like how japanese people mention old animes as their favourite ones. It makes me feel better since I'm not too savvy about newer animes and I can't get into them as easily as most people in the west. Thanks for making this interview, it was very illustrative! (:
@arepi20677 жыл бұрын
Adrian Fahrenheit lol but it's not like new anime is exclusive cool in the West. These Japanese people most likely picked those older anime due to nostalgia, but when I'm in Japan new anime is a more common sight than old anime (unless it's still running)
@Ging_105 жыл бұрын
Adrian Fahrenheit 80s, 90s, and early 2000s those were the golden eras of anime. Anything new that came after is just a copy cat made for mainstream fans. And people who missed that ear of anime will never understand this.

Shadowfury The opposite of a fujoshi is a fudanshi (a guy that likes bl or yaoi). I don't think there's a name for girls and guys that like shoujo-ai and yuri. Or rather I've never heard a term for it. An otaku is more of a person that loves anime and manga and spends a lot of time (almost an unhealthy amount of time) invested in that hobby. And I think a weeb/weeaboo is more commonly used in western places for an annoying anime lover but I'm not super sure.
@realmysticstrider7 жыл бұрын
+Juuri Kuuro Yeah, I see. I kinda knew, but didn't know there would be a fudanshi and I know they exist, just didn't realize and forgot what they're called. Like I've seen Japanese using it when they call themselves or their friends, other people etc. using "otaku" person for video-games, cars, fashion, school stuff, musicians, etc. anything that's not just anime or manga per se. It is commonplace that the major anime only comes out because the place is Ikebukuro. It is different from Akihabara. Foreigners think that all Japanese love animation, but only say that the status of animation is the same as sports and drama. Or can all Americans mention all the names of athletes of American football? If I compare Gintama, it is a movie that took the Grammy award. Everyone has seen it. People who said Gintama, they do not see much animation.
