I understand this. I was in the Navy in San Diego, and worked with lots of people from the Philippines. In general they are very family oriented, friendly and welcoming. And I love The food! Of course this is a generalization. But it does describe their culture, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Different cultures have different characteristics. It’s what makes the world a great place to live!

The costs seem very high to me . I live 60 Km outside Toronto, Canada in a much better place for $600 USD / $750 CAND. I've seen lots of bigger, more beautiful homes for rent in the Philippines for under $500 USD a month. The majority of the people showcase in this series are young or students... and value living in trendy, bustling locations more than cost. Plus we have better healthcare. The Philippines are beautiful people and place... but the Western Style condos are both bland an a lousy value. If I can live cheaper near Toronto than Manilla... something is very wrong. I would still love to visit!

They live smack in the city center you can't compare it to outskirts of Toronto. Outside city center the rents would be cheaper too. I bet Toronto rents are higher in the city center.

Believe it or not, this is the Middle class of Manila. Upper Class Manila families do not live in studio apartments. They live in posh 3 bedroom apartments and big mansions.

Most of these are most likely a professional who earns P50,000 and above. It's not uncommon especially if you live near downtown and has a job in the most in-demand fields like BPOs, Advertising, Marketing, etc. Actually, as someone from Makati, these types of apartments are common, and there are also affordable apartments like the ones near the border of BGC and the ones share with roommates. I assume you're not from Makati?

Why were they all studios? Poor ranging. Manila is pricier than I would have thought, though only by a bit.

How can she trust having snakes and spiders with cats in the apartment!!? That seems like a potentially deadly situation for the cats and or spiders.
