@4:10 best answer by far. That woman has clearly put a LOT of thought into what it means to be human and into her own beliefs. Most people answered the question as “what does the human body physically consist of?” She answered it as “what makes an individual person who they are?” and hit the nail right on the head. Very insightful answer.

Pardon my English, please. Janusz, you ask such enticing questions! Firstly, I’d have to say that we humans are made of stardust. But I suppose we’re really not things (nouns) so much as we’re actions (verbs). In the same way that a whirlpool is not really a thing so much as a description of what a thing we call water is doing at a specific place and time, we are what happens when countless tiny whirlpools coalesce and develop the ability to last for many decades, rather than simply fade out in a matter of moments, as each would inevitably do on its own. I once read somewhere: No single raindrop believes itself responsible for the flood. =^O Cheers you two!! -Phill, Las Vegas

people often make reference to "self consciousness" in defining the human experience, as one of the interviewees did. but does this make sense? what is self consciousness? the brain thinking about itself? is there any other organ or system in the body that we think of as having a self referential function? does the stomach digest about itself? do the lungs breath about themselves? does an ear hear itself? the notion of self reference to me is no more evident than the notion of thinking substance. an interesting assumption perhaps, but one that ultimately leads to more problems than it solves. one of those "embarrassing dualism" that sartre referred to. Depends on what kind of time. There's Time and there is Aging. Time is just the position in space between two objects. For example the earth's rotation spinning on its axis relative to the sun is what creates day and night, and the earth's orbit around the sun is what creates seasons. So time is not "real", all that exists is the present moment. If we were in an empty space with no objects, then there would be no time. "Aging" is real though, aging is the impermanence and decay, which happens to all objects, which is a result of heat, as heat is the movement of particles, and as long as there is movement, there is aging.

@@TwoFoot Wow, thanks, this is a very fundamental answer, I didn't even think in that direction. I rather thought about where it all begins, and where it ends, maybe there is no beginning and no end. @@kyivdreamer you might be interested in some stoic philosophy and early buddhist philosophy like this: www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/mn/mn.131.than.html You shouldn't chase after the past or place expectations on the future. What is past is left behind. The future is as yet unreached. Whatever quality is present you clearly see right there, right there. Not taken in, unshaken, that's how you develop the heart. Ardently doing what should be done today, for - who knows? - tomorrow death. There is no bargaining with Mortality & his mighty horde. Whoever lives thus ardently, relentlessly both day & night, has truly had an auspicious day: so says the Peaceful Sage.
