What Are Linear Voltage Regulators? In this video I will tell you what are linear voltage regulators and why they get so hot. A linear voltage regulator is an electrical component that allows an electrical engineer to covert a higher voltage to a lower one in the circuit. This is useful since often times we need a specific voltage for our circuit. However there is one main limitation, which is that they are not very energy efficient. Due to the conservation of energy the linear voltage regulator has to dissipate the difference in energies by converting it into heat, which is why it gets hot.
