I'd say my biggest influence in life was my own brother. He and I really get along very well and I can only recall us ever fighting once in our entire lives! But it was a small fight that could have easily been avoided that we just stumbled across and it got resolved quickly so it wasn't too bad. So, other than that one fight, we were very good siblings to each other. He is pretty much my best friend in the whole world even now when we're adults and into our own things. But he's not just my brother and best friend to me, as he is also my hero. Even though I'm a year older than him, he was always more like a big brother to me and he was always willing to help me whenever I was being bullied or was having difficulties with something. Not only that, but he even quite literally saved my life several times! Mostly from being hit by cars while crossing the street (I had a really bad time learning to safely cross the street) but the first time will always be the most memorable to me. We were attending a city camp together near our mom's work place during the summer and it was time for all the camp groups to go to the pool and play. Since my brother and I were in different camp groups due to our ages, I always tried to play with him when we could and so I decided to play chase with him in the pool. But I suddenly felt my heart start to beat slowly and really hard against my chest, leading me lose nearly all my strength right on the spot and nearly drown. I only had enough strength left to try and keep my head above water but I couldn't call out for help due to a shortage of breath I had and no one saw that I was in trouble because of all the splashing and screaming kids and anyone who did notice me thought I was just playing in the water like all the other kids. I was about to go under when my brother noticed I wasn't chasing him anymore and saw me splashing around. He knew that I would have never given up on a game like that without telling him so he knew that something must have been wrong. When he saw me start to go under, he grabbed me immediately and swam me to the edge of the pool. He even pulled me out of the water all on his own as I didn't have anymore strength in me and the lifeguards had only just realized that something was wrong and were running over to help. Luckily, I didn't need CPR or anything like that but I wasn't allowed to go swimming anymore that day and I had to stay on stairs with my mom who just happened to have come to check on us at the moment all the lifeguards came running towards us. She was really freaked out by it and set up a doctor's appointment right away to find out what was wrong with me. As it turned out, I had developed a heart condition that required me to take things easy for a bit and even wearing a machine to monitor my heart. Had my brother not realized something was wrong when I stopped chasing him, I would have drowned and had a heat attack. I probably wouldn't be here today. Ever since then, my brother has been my hero and anytime something happened to me I'd want my brother to be there for me.
